The Intimidator Master Chief Spartan suit of armor by Dave French

Meet my hubby Dave French, maker of the Intimidator suit of armor

Who is that Spartan?

Dave French won't easily take his helmet off; he prefers the anonymity of wearing a suit of armor. As his wife I can tell you that his personality is quite reserved, and he is rather introverted.

He enjoyed the time he spent making the costume and video taping the how to make foam armor tutorials (included on this hub), and wearing the armor suits him.

The Making of the Master Chief (Armor by Dave French)

It took Dave countless hours to make this Master Chief from halo suit of armor out of foam. It is custom made from head to toe. To this day he still likes to tweak the suit. Every year at Halloween the suit comes out, and generally gets some upgrades.

The ambitious in foam armor design can follow Dave French's halo foam armor tutorials to make the costume at home. And only in the tutorials can glimpses of the reclusive man beneath the armor be seen.

Does Dave make these suits for other people?

For awhile Dave sold the patterns he used to cut the foam pieces for the armor. He thought about getting into producing similar foam costumes, but it's very labor and time intensive. The trouble is most folks don't want to pay enough for the suit of armor costume to make it worthwhile. The patterns are now available by donation - send Dave an email at halo.armorer@gmail.com to request them.

Dave is very creative as we already know, but this is really the tops. I watched the videos, but didn't see how he got them the silver color. Did he paint it?

Back again, those full photos kids would love as posters. Dave should do more open shows for people like the convention. He did a great job.

Darcie,

Great job on the armour. I'm looking forward to try to make my own for mi oldest kid. I'm intrigued about the tool you use for cutting. It looks like a soldering tool with an exacto knife attached to it; can you please confirm if that's correct and how may I mount it together? Regards from Mx

Mx, many thanks for the question, I will get back to you after I ask my hubby about the tool he used :)

Darcie, Hopefully you still view your page here. I cant seem to get the tutorials to load for some reason. My now 13yr old son has been after me for a few years to make this costume for him. Your husbands is by far the greatest one I have ever seen. The link for the patterns also cant be displayed. I was wondering if it was taken down or such? I would love to make this for him this year as I'm not certain that my limitations will remain let me do this type of thing for much longer. I have done his costumes every year as his disability prevents him from being comfortable going out shopping. thank you in advance for any assistance you can offer. Karen

What tool do you use to burn the detail into the foam? Assuming that is what you did.
