One of my favourite artists, John Berkey specialised in space and sci-fi themed art, he was born in North Dakota, August 13th, 1932.

Berkey had a long and distinguished career during which he avoided using computers. He created cover art for many books, and also worked on movie posters, famous examples include The Towering Inferno (1974) and King Kong (1976). He also contributed several striking examples of Star Wars art.

John Berkey was inducted into the Society of Illustrators Hall of Fame in 2004.

He died of heart failure on April 29th, 2008.

I hope you enjoy my little tribute to a great artist.

Below is a link to an extensive fan website of John Berkey's artwork.

Another winning hub that I am checking out for the first time 9 months after you wrote this hub. I love the King King one the best of all the ones you posted. I remember having a board game and I am pretty sure this the same picture that was on that game. I had never seen the shark picture before but very impressive...voted up and very interesting.

Thanks for checking out my very first artist hub Cogerson, much appreciated.

I was still a shy newbie when I published this and didn't even thank false alarm for commenting tsk tsk.

Looking at the stats it was my 6th hub in 4 days, boy was I faster then. :)

John Berkey was a fave of mine since the 1980's I'd love to buy that book of his artwork but look at the price!
