Kid Craft Ideas For A Rainy Day

Updated on March 31, 2011

Kids Craft Ideas

Kids get bored easily and so here are a selection of kids craft ideas to get them busy when it's raining or they are just bored out of their tiny little heads.

Paint a picture

Kids like to paint, so why not try and paint a picture, you could suggest to them to paint a picture of a nice sunny day or something from their imagination, which kids do like to do, for this, all you need are paints, cheap brushes and lots of paper.

For the added entertainment factor, you could introduce a game into the painting project, like a good old fashioned timing the painting to compete against each other or you could challenge the kids to paint different things in a set time, this is quite popular with my kids, although do protect the surrounding area with a large sheet as paint flies if you give it wings.

Paint A Mask

Painting masks is another fun thing to do, my son painted one a while a go and he painted it up like a monster with teeth and horns all over it, it really was a great mask, until he sat on it and broke it that is, but painting masks is a good craft project and you can glue stuff to it like feathers and other household or specialist craft materials to make it a truly great piece of art.

I myself just bought a £1 mask which I want to paint and when I do, you can bet I'll do a Hubpage about it.

There are really cheap blank masks at Amazon below to use for your kids craft projects.

Buy A Blank Mask On Amazon And Get Painting Them

Make Some Jewelry With Ready To Make Bead Sets

This one is usually for young girls, but if your son is interested don't turn them away, get them involved. Jewelry sets are available to buy as bead sets usually, some are simply a thread the beads affair, but there are some that require a complex series of knots and threading by instruction, for kids it's best to go for the kids Jewelry sets as this only requires threading the beads to a pattern of colours or something.

My daughter goes mad on bead sets lately and she won't go to school without one of her plastic bead creations on her arm as a bracelet.

Find Something In The House To Decorate And Paint

Usually, finding something in the house to decorate and include the kids in is the best thing, as all you will need are the materials, such as paints and whatever else.

Painting a bedroom wall is one top idea, especially if it's their bedroom, because they will often tell you a long list of things to paint on the wall, such as cartoon characters and animals, my son and daughter both liked to draw on our walls at one time or another and so if you give them a chance to actually paint they will be very enthusiastic at the thought.

Decorating picture frames is another craft idea, as gluing shells to an old mirror just makes it look better, often there will be some supervion involved so they don't glue their eyes shut or anything or dealing with a mirror or photo glass frame you would obviously have to be careful not to cut themselves if it smashes.

Painting cups or mugs can be another great craft idea, although you will need specialist paints for this, to make the paint stay on the ceramic surface.
