Luis Royo is a popular artist best known for his work in fantasy and SF, particularly adept at painting naked and near naked women in futuristic and apocalyptic settings.

Royo was born in 1954, in Olalla, Spain. He studied painting and interior design at school in Zaragoza.

His interest in painting naked ladies probably began when he started reading adult comics in the late 70’s. He became a big fan of artists like Moebius and Enki Bilal.

In the 1980’s Royo started contributing covers for Heavy Metal Magazine, a popular adult SF and fantasy comic magazine, the stories feature striking artwork by various talented artists and some of the art is of the erotic variety. The magazine was first published in 1977 and still selling today.

Royo was the artist most associated with Heavy Metal Magazine, and his reputation and cult status grew because of the magazine. There were Heavy Metal Calendars featuring Royo’s artwork and galleries inside the magazine entirely devoted to Royo’s art.

When Heavy Metal Magazine celebrated its 20th anniversary Royo was the artist commissioned to produce a cover for the special issue.

Other magazines he contributed cover artwork include Penthouse Comix and National Lampoon, he also produced covers for over 200 SF, fantasy and horror paperbacks.

Luis Royo has published many books featuring his artwork including – Malefic (1997), Secrets (1996), Dreams (1999), Visions (2003), Women (1997), Prohibited (2003), Dark Labyrinth (2006), III Millennium (2003), Evolution (2003) and Conceptions (2002).

Looks like Hubpages is having difficulties with its formatting, some pictures show up than they don't show up, than the pictures change into links and than change to a big white square. I think I may have picked the wrong day to post my hub. :)

Yes, this is 6 hours after you made that comment and there are still issues with photos. I'll revisit this hub again and hopefully all pictures will load so I can make a proper comment.

Awesome! I have always enjoyed his work in Heavy Metal magazine. Thank you so much for sharing.

Flora, Zavala, thanks for commenting, most appreciated.

I'm still seeing blank spaces and links where the pictures should be. I felt something was wrong when I started this hub, the pictures wouldn't upload until the 3rd or 4th attempt. Some would only appear half size others full size. Took me ages. I'll upload all of them again later and see if it fixes the problem.

Sorry to say that it appears HubPages is still having issues.....but I do like the ones you have posted. And I am curious about the ones that are missing. Nice addition to your Artist volume collection.

As for the photo problem is there anything on the forums that talks about the issue? I just checked a few of my older hubs and I have the same issue....especially with my most recent hubs...the older ones seem ok.....oh the wonderful world of HubPages.

Voted up and interesting.....you continue to be a hub producing machine as you work your way to #200.

Thanks Bruce, appreciate the comment amigo. There is a thread in the forum where others have complained about missing photos starting yesterday.

Looking at the hub now they all seem to be up. Maybe it's been fixed? Took me ages to upload last night, nearly gave up.

I was just looking at some of my older hubs and many are now missing photos. My James Caan hub now only has one photo left. Wow I wonder if there latest design updated dumped photos... I would have to go back and fix 138 hubs......could be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

Hmmm I looked at a bunch of your hubs and the photos seem to be there Bruce, check out your Kubrick hub 17 photos are they all there? Maybe they're still working on the problem. I'm not posting any more hubs until everythings back to normal.

I have a suggestion for one of your next hubs....how about a illustrated reference on all the Wyatt Earp/Gunfight at the OK Coral movies....which would include DeForest Kelly/Dr. Leonard McCoy as one of the few that actually appeared in that gunfight twice....once in Gunfight at the OK Coral and the other in a Star Trek episode.....so here is some trivia for you....can you name at least one other actor that did the Gunfight scene in more than one role?

Your favourite, James Garner? :)

That's a good idea Bruce, Wyatt Earp in the Movies. I've marked it down, cheers. Some great actors have been in that gunfight at the OK corral.

I think I asked a trivia question that I do not know the answer to....I thought it was Walter Brennan....but I got my Walters mixed up....as Walter Huston was in 1932's Law and Order while Brennan was in 1946's My Darling Clementine....but Brennan was in Law and Order just not in the gunfight part.....sorry for my error.....but we still have Bones.

Bruce, James Garner played Wyatt Earp in the 1967 western Hour of the Gun and in the Bruce Willis film Sunset. I thought you knew that and that's why you asked the question. No worries, no one remembers Sunset. :)

Flora Breen Robison 4 years ago

Oh, Deforest Kelly trivia, love it. Yes, he's been several people in that gunfight.

I'm making a proper comment now as all the photos are up now!

I've never read Heavy Metal Magazine, but this artwork is beautiful. I am not signed in and normally would see a huge number of ads: However, I see very few ads on the hub-I think Google doesn't like the nakedness of the pictures and you have only HP ads.

My preferences:

Fallen Angel, Dancing Vac, Window on Buonarotti (my overall favourite),and Memory in White.

Hmmm. My choices have men and animals in them-none of them involve lots of blood or naked women...can't imagine why...

Hi Flora, I'm glad you're seeing all the pictures now. People are still complaining of missing pictures and blank squares.

Some of the pictures from this artist I couldn't post here, they were a little too sexually graphic.

I like Buonarotti and Memory in White too, I also liked The Chantry Guild. On the wider pictures you're seeing both sides of his paperback covers, back and front.
