Your comments are always appreciated Mhatter99, no matter the length. :)

One more decade where musicals flourished and than they simply vanished, well almost.

Ok..... musicals are my achilles' heel when it comes to movie knowledge...but I am happpy to say that I have seen 9 of the movies that you included in this hub......mainly due to my Fred Astaire movie marathon that I did after writing a Fred Astaire hub many months ago.

I did not even realize Calamity Jane was a musical....I guess I should have paid attention to the fact that it starred Doris Day.

Voted up and interesting.....getting to read two Steve Lensman hubs in one day....you have been a very productive hubber.

Oh! The Deadwood Stage is a-rollin' on over the plains,

With the curtains flappin' and the driver slappin' the reins.

Beautiful sky! A wonderful day!

Whip crack-away!, Whip crack-away!, Whip crack-away!

Calamity Jane is a great musical Bruce, one of my faves. You get to see Doris Day punching and shooting at people which doesn't happen often, and the tunes are great too, well worth watching.

Highest rated film on this page is... my favourite musical - Singin' in the Rain, the only film scoring more than 8.

No.2 is A Star is Born and no.3 The Band Wagon. All great films.

Thanks for commenting!

Steve.....I love musicals. Of those listed here, I have seen nearly all the movies and a few, I was lucky enough to see "live".... Especially loved Oklahoma, South Pacific, Pal Joey and High Society. I was surprised not to see Man of La Mancha and The Unsinkable Molly Brown....were they later than the rest of these? You would know better than I. in Molly Brown, was the leading man Howard Keel or Harv Presnesll? I saw Man of La Manch, Live ,in Toronto at the O'Keefe Center....in the 70's....Richard Kiley (I love him!) it was absolutely fabulous.....just feet from the stage.....

Anyway, This is a very great hub and a nice walk down memory lane, which I always welcome! ....UPO+++ and shared.

Hello Paula, thanks for commenting, voting and sharing, much appreciated.

The Unsinkable Molly Brown was released in the 60's and will be included in my next musicals hub, Harv Presnell was Debbie Reynolds leading man.

The Man of La Mancha was released in the early 70's with Peter O'Toole singing that 'Impossible Dream'.

Thanks as always for posting!

Hi Steve; A lot of great musicals here. And some bad ones, too. (Lil' Abner was dreadful!!!) I've seen Singing in the Rain a dozen times.

Another good job,

Rob
