Tradition and Art

Bohemian Glass is an ancient tradition that began in the Middle Ages with the discovery of silica and potash and lime in great quantities in the Bohemian Moravian highlands. Artisans soon discovered that these raw materials produced a malleable substance that made very durable glass. Very shortly, Bohemian Glass earned a widespread reputation as a beautiful and long lasting product and by the 19th century it was being dispatched worldwide. In the modern day Czech Republic there are still Masters of the craft producing both traditional and contemporary glass and crystal products.

Bohemian Glass Vases and Crystal vases

Many retailers and online sites offer extensive collections of Bohemian glass vases, crystal vases and other decorative items. Both Bohemian glass and crystal vases are popular among those who know; particularly as gifts for weddings, birthdays, and other special occasions. A crystal glass vase can be found in a variety of different and unique designs. Most of the vases include fine engraving, unique shapes, beautiful designs and unusual colours. This antique glassware is very delicate and needs proper care.

Tips on Taking Care of Your Vases

1) Wash your bohemian glass vases in lukewarm water using mild detergents: NEVER in a dishwasher.

2) Immediately dry the vases with a soft cloth and always keep them in a dry place.

3) Sometimes a grey coating may appear if the vases are not in use for long time, but just wipe off the area with a dry soft cloth and they will remain as good as new.

Great hub with some beautiful examples of bohemian glass! Glass art is really one of the most under appreciated art forms. I was lucky enough to work in an art center that taught glass making. This experience gave me a deeper insight into the knowledge and skill that goes into making these pieces of art. These artists are truly gifted! Thanks for sharing this great information!

I love bohemian glass, I especially like to get a great deal on it at flea markets and estate sales.

Thanks Lady Summerset, Isn't it great when you find a gem at a market or sale, I'm always on the lookout for something special. It doesn't happen often, but when it does it makes my day.
