Sunset Photographs Over Frozen Lake Michigan Inspire Poetry

Suspended Undone

The shores of Lake Michigan are locked in frozen ice most years, but not always as far out as they eye can see. The year 2011, was a particularly cold winter with record breaking snowfall which created a beautiful natural spectacle!

Freshwater reservoir

unable to flow

Locked in the tundra

of frozen snow

Covert waves

mount ice shuffled piles

Seen in the distance

for virtually miles

Dewdropless air

conceive deep blue skies

Juxtapose rippled clouds

floating by and by

Horizon widespread

linear and free

Connects vast bodies

wedging infinity

Sun ball sinks silent

upon suspended scene

Energizes the blankness

with contrasting themes

Fire and ice kiss

from which new atoms come

Colors ignite setting

no longer numb

..well let me be (proudly) the first to tell you how beautiful these pictures are Kathi - and the words only enhance it evem more so - it's uncanny too because many of these photographs remind me of my view on a daily and nightly basis - so ironic because we are both looking at the same thing - lol lol lol - and the icing on this proverbial hubcake is these pictures come from a world class artist who knows how use her camera in such a creative way ......

Beautiful, Kathi-I was recently (March) at Gull Lake near Kalamazoo on retreat. The beauty of the frozen lake coming alive again was breathtaking. It was the time of that HUGE harvest moon-the great big orange pumpkin, and I missed it! But, others said it was gorgeous over the lake.

Fossillady profile image

Fossillady 5 years ago from Saugatuck Michigan Author

I know right where that is,spent part of my childhood in the Kalamazoo area near West Lake, Hogset,Long Lake and Gordneck sp? I remember that moon! Good to see you Denise

One of my favorite hub presentations by you Kathi - and here I am to revisit a classic and of course your world class photography and beautiful writing too. I will post link and share this beauty on the Hubpages FB group to try and get you more exposure and attention.

I just hope it doesen't look like this over the winter here - as beautiful as it looks if the lake doesen't freeze over like last winter then it's fine by me - lol - sending you warm wishes and good energy from lake erie time 3:09pm canada saturday afternoon after night shift sleep

Fossillady profile image

You're so sweet, My neighbor is worried because we didn't have much precip last winter or summer. Last winter was the first I can remember the lake didn't freeze over! Is your water level way down too? Are you work'n night shift these days?

epigramman profile image

epigramman 3 years ago

Yes Miss K - still on the night shift detail - still loving my two best friends Little Miss Tiffy and Mister Gabriel - and yes the water level is way down and the tide is way back exposing two football field lengths of sand long and wide - how have you been keeping - how is your family - it's really great to see you again dear friend - please keep in touch - I have no family as you know but I have the loving memory of my dear mum and dad - and I know you also have the loving memory of your husband as well - yes I am getting the feeling we are going to have a repeat of last winter- what do you think?

lake erie time 6:45pm

Fossillady profile image

Fossillady 3 years ago from Saugatuck Michigan Author

It looks that way to me too and to think the two preceding years we had record snow fall! Do say hello to Miss Tiffy and Mr. G. Tell them Khaki and Patchy say hello, too.

I hope you know your mum and dad are with you all the time! My two boys, Sam 26 and Cory 24 are both doin great. They both have jobs, one's in college and both have steady girlfriends, what more could one ask for these days!

epigramman profile image

epigramman 3 years ago

it's amazing how fast they grow up , Kathi, pretty soon you will be the youngest looking grandmum around - lol - how old are Khaki and Patchy now - Tiffy, my mum's cat, is now 18 years old and very healthy and content - she is also the diva - and Gabriel , I would say is about 6 years old now - maybe 7, and he is an all white cat and deaf and loves going for walks with me along the beach and I take the leash off him and he runs along the shoreline like a little white feline stallion -lol

Fossillady profile image

Fossillady 3 years ago from Saugatuck Michigan Author

Can't wait to be a grandmum! Both my kitties are 13, both males and they have an ambiguous relationship, sometimes friends and once in a while they go at each other. Then one of em wears a big scratch on his nose for months before the hair grows completely back. My Khaki kitty walks down the street with me all the time. He thinks he's a dog. Only I live on a dead end and he gets lazy and stops half way and waits for me to come back. He's not a feline stallion, lol, but if he gets too far behind, he'll come running when I call him.
