The Art of Pablo Picasso
A Quick Biography
Pablo Picasso was a Spanish painter and sculptor. Born in 1881, he lived to the age of 91 and died in 1973. He is best known as a co-founder of the Cubist movement in the art world. Cubism is a style of painting that takes objects apart and re-interprets them in basic shapes. One of the most famous Cubist paintings is Picasso's Guernica, which depicts a small Spanish town that was used as target practice by the SS in World War 2.
Picasso was also an accomplished sculptor, with many of his works still on display at major museums. But most people will remember Picasso for his incredible paintings. At recent auctions, Picasso paintings have sold for prices in the tens and even hundreds of millions of dollars, making Picasso one of the most valued artists in the history of the art world.
