Garmash - The Fine Romantic Impressionists
Michael and Inessa Garmash are a husband and wife artistic team who have been painting together since their daughter was two years old. But Garmash artwork didn’t start out this way. Michael Garmash, born in 1969 in the Ukraine, started painting by the age of three and was considered a prodigy. He started his formal art education by the age of six and even at a very young age was showing his artwork at art exhibitions in the Soviet Union. He graduated at the top of his class from the Lugansk State Fine Art College in 1987 and shortly thereafter served in the army. Concurrently, Inessa was accepted into the Lugansk State Fine Art College as a dancer, musician and gymnast. When they were at the college together Michael created some of his best artwork by painting Inessa any place that would allow him to in town. He worked from memory, and painted amazing human forms ripe with passion. Probably one of the most romantic ways to capture a girl, Garmash's art captured Inessa’s heart and soon after they were married.
Inessa did not know the talent she had for creating her own art until their two year old daughter painted over Michael’s painting of her, essentially ruining his painting. When Inessa found what their two year old did, she picked up a brush and paint and did her best to fix Michael’s painting. Since Michael considered the painting finished, she wrapped it for him, gave it to him and he sent it on for review. The review he received on his painting surprised him. It was the best review he received for his artwork to date. He looked at the painting and realized that his wife had added her own special touch to it. Recognizing her talent and the value of her artwork, he asked her to collaborate with him as an equal partner in creating art. Together, they paint the same piece and often use their own daughter or themselves as models. Their work on the same art piece is very rare. Typically artists are solitary figures, choosing to work alone on their artwork.
