The Mastery of Garmash Artwork

Michael and Inessa Garmash are truly unique artists. Each developed their talent separately, but fate brought them together in a divinely inspired ‘perfect storm’ of being in the right place at the right time. Michael and Inessa met at the Lugansk State Fine Art College. Michael was a top art student and Inessa was a top dance and music student. Michael fell for Inessa so hard that he began to paint her in lovely frescos all over the town where they lived. She did not know he was doing this until she saw the paintings. She recognized that this Garmash artist painted her portrait with passion and love and she sought him out to meet him. They dated for a short time and then married. Michael was a prolific painter back then and created many fine works, often winning awards. His works appeared in shows all across the Soviet Union.

When their daughter was only two, the Garmash artist decided to paint her portrait. Their daughter found the painting and proceeded to ‘enhance’ the painting with her own embellishments. Unfortunately, the embellishments were not quite in the Romantic Impressionist style of her father. Inessa found the altered painting and proceeded to ‘fix’ the painting, even though she had not been trained as a painter. Hoping the fixes would be ok, she wrapped the painting up and handed it to her husband without telling him what happened. He turned the painting in for review and got the most glowing review of any painting he had ever submitted. To his surprise, when he finally looked at the painting, it was different, better….a product of both ‘Garmash artists’. From that point on Michael and Inessa created art together.

Even though they work simultaneously on the same piece of artwork, these two artists create masterpieces that give the impression of one mind, one imagination, one hand. This coupled creativity is unique in the art world and is evidence that the Garmashs are a very closely connected couple in all ways.

The Garmash artists, Michael and Inessa, use subjects that are ready made for Romantic Impressionism. They often use their daughter and themselves in their paintings or will use other beautiful models, creating mother and child portraits and other romantic themes. The background of their paintings always forms a major part of the romantic or homey ambiance: a beach with crashing waves, a garden, or a domestic scene. In addition to their use and mastery of the human form, these artists are also masters of the use of bright colors and flowing lines, making one feel like they are right there in the scene with the artists’ subject. Both artists obviously allow their love to flow from their brushes onto the canvas. Because of the way they work together, it is clear that they were born to be together in all ways and this shows in their artistry. As the Garmash artists have said “Our love has been the inspiration for our work. It is with the paint brush that we express our true emotions.”

Beautiful story and very interesting information. I was also hoping to see some of the fresco paintings of his 'passion' before they were married. Are there any examples? I loved this hub. The paintings are so lovely and whimsical. Rated up/U/I/B/A sharing...
