Wreaths

There are a myriad of fabulous wreath tutorials out there these days for every holiday and occasion imaginable with lots of options for old book pages. It is not hard to customize existing wreath patterns and ideas for Valentine's Day if you cannot find exactly what you want. Don't be afraid to switch things up depending on what you have on hand as well. For example, if you already have a wire wreath base and you've found a tutorial with a Styrofoam base, see if you can make it work. A heart shaped outline and a filled heart shape are both popular options for Valentine's Day wreaths. Add some red to the book pages, age them, or leave them in their original form.

Banners / Garlands

You can keep the banner or garland simple with hearts on each pendant. Cut out heart shapes from the book pages or add hearts made out of scrapbook paper, fabric, glitter, etc. to larger book page pendants. Keep it simple with a single color or have fun mixing up the colors and patterns. You can also spell out words with one letter on each pendant. Many people keep it easy with pre-cut scrapbooking letters or Cricut (or a similar machine) letters. Popular words and phrases include "be mine", "love", "Valentine", "Valentine's Day", and "I love you." Don't feel limited to these options.

Trees

Most of the book page tree tutorials out there are for Christmas, but there is no reason why you can't customize this concept for Valentine's Day. Many book page trees are simple, versatile decoration pieces that work well for any holiday. Of course there is nothing wrong with adding a little Valentine's Day embellishment. I've included links for a couple plain tree tutorials that are versatile and/or easily customizable. There are more readily available on Pinterest as well if you can't find one here that you like.

Tip: To make a different kind of Valentine's Day banner than the popular pendant banner, string your heart ornaments!

Ornaments

The ornament pictured on the right is one of the most popular and simple book page ornament ideas. With a classic heart shape, it is also perfect for Valentine's Day. An ornament makes a great smaller gift, which is ideal when you're making multiple gifts for a handful of people, or it makes a sweet small addition to a larger Valentine's Day gift.

Wall Decor

You can create simple Valentine's Day wall decor by printing, drawing, or painting virtually any image or text onto an old book and framing it. Create your own visual or text layout or grab a favorite image or saying online. The possibilities are endless. You can also punch hearts from book pages and arrange them on a canvas or a thin backing that can be framed (i.e. a thin piece of cardstock) to create original artwork. Leave the hearts as is or pair them with words.

Bouquets

Why not mix up the classic bouquet idea for Valentine's Day with a book pages bouquet? As it lasts much longer than a bouquet of real flowers, it can become a permanent decor piece in a living room, dining room, or bedroom. Have fun picking out the perfect vase for it.

Bookmarks

A handmade bookmark is a great addition to a book gift, and it makes for a perfect smaller gift for classmates or co-workers. For those who are crafty, this is a gift that can come together in mere minutes with supplies that you already have on hand.

Tip: You can make coordinating envelopes out of book pages, too! Check out the tutorials below.

Cards

Greeting cards, envelopes, and gift tags are all great ways to add personalized touches to homemade gifts. Choose one or get ambitious and make all three for Valentine's Day this year. Pages from romance novels are a popular choice. Some people also like to hunt through books for romantic words and punch them out with heart shaped paper punches. Feature a large section of a page or use a few page scraps as embellishment.

You always have some great ideas, Rose. These are beautiful. I love your photos. I'm pinning to my Valentine's Board. My guy and I don't do much for Valentine's Day, but I might do something creative for him. He loves to read, so a personalized bookmark might be a neat idea for him. Great hub. All the votes except funny! :-)

Thanks, Vicki! I appreciate the votes and shares. Jake and I have a pretty low-key Valentine's Day, too. We have dinner out, and sometimes we do a small present. A personalized bookmark is a great little gift for an avid reader.

I have never thought about printing an image on an old book page. Genius! Absolutely LOVE that idea. I'm already trying to think of an old book I don't need to read anymore. :) Will be pinning this to keep for later reference. -Kate
