This is a great collection of westerns regardless of year of release. I have seen almost every single one of these movies. I just saw The Gunfighter a few days ago....Peck is outstanding as a famous gunfighter who really just wants to be a farmer with no fame and glory.

Lots of Gary Cooper and John Wayne movies in this hub. Of the many classic movie in your hub...one of my favorites is The Law and Jake Wade...I love Richard Widmark in that one as the bad guy.

Awesome hub with some awesome posters which make another fine addition for your poster series....voted up and awesome.

Mhatter99, Bruce, thanks for the comments, much appreciated.

Almost every major actor of that time is on a poster on this page - John Wayne, James Stewart, Henry Fonda, Gary Cooper, Gregory Peck, Richard Widmark, Randolph Scott, Rock Hudson, Spencer Tracy, Clark Gable, Tyrone Power, Audie Murphy, Alan Ladd, Charlton Heston, Glenn Ford, Jack Lemmon, Robert Mitchum, Kirk Douglas, Burt Lancaster, Robert Taylor, Stewart Granger, Anthony Quinn, Rod Steiger, James Cagney, Jack Palance, Robert Ryan, Dean Martin and Paul Newman... phew!

Stars missing from the list include - Cary Grant, David Niven, James Mason, Humphrey Bogart, Marlon Brando and Errol Flynn.

I could have filled up the entire hub with Randolph Scott and Audie Murphy posters, some really great posters too, next time.

Highest IMDB rated western of the 50's is High Noon, 2nd is Rio Bravo, 3rd The Searchers. Lowest rated on this page is Arrowhead.

Thanks for posting.

Steve....My interest can always peak, when anything at all from the '50's is featured. As a proud Boomer, I love "going back" to take a look at what was and who was...and how it was, during the most wonderful era ever (IMO)! lol.......Movies, actors, music, you name it. As I read through your hub, GREAT posters, BTW......reading the lists of cast members, reminded me of some I had completely forgotten about.

Our Mom got 2 magazine subscriptions in the '50's.....one was "Photoplay" and the name of the other escapes me at the moment. My sister and I couldn't wait until our mother was done with them.......she would give them to us, and off my sister and I would go to look at all the "STARS" and read about their lives and movies.....We each had a scrapbook, to paste pictures in and of course, we had to argue over which one of us, got what pictures!

Now, I realize that this is how we knew so many of the Movie stars from that era and to this day, can still name them.

Thanks for this. You always do a great presentation of your posters!!!

UP +++ and shared

Lots of fond memories of Saturday afternoon movie matinees in this line up. I still enjoy watching many of those. I was a big fan of Jimmy Stewart...loved "Winchester '73". It is really amazing what happened when Hollywood discovered the Oklahoma Cowboy via the wild west shows and put him on the big screen. Thanks for sharing. WB

Paula, Carol, Wayne, thanks for the comment and kind words, always appreciated.

Writing this hub has got me in the mood to watch some of these old westerns. I watched Escape from Fort Bravo earlier, good film.

Paula, I used to buy a UK film magazine titled Photoplay back in the late 70's. I wish I kept them, might be worth something now. :)

Thank you all for posting.

More great posters. I don't recall some of these-- but I bet I've seen most of them (on TV). One I KNOW I haven't seen is "Warlock". I know I would have remembered a Western called "Warlock".

Thanks David, appreciate the comment. My next hub should be right down your alley, it's War! 50's style. :)

Warlock is actually a pretty good western with some big stars, alas there are no witches or sorcery. Warlock was the name of the town.

Thanks for posting.

Hi Steve; Ah westerns, the forgotten genre. They were once so popular in films and on TV but now you hardly ever see any. It's too bad because there were so many good ones and its so unique to American culture. As Robert Duvall once said, "The English have Shakespeare but we've got the western."

As always, good job with the photos,

Rob

Cheers Rob, the 1950s was the greatest ever decade for Western movies, so many were made. Nearly a hundred westerns were released in 1951 alone!
