With Apple products only becoming more popular, and Apple not allowing Flash, HTML5 is an asset for programmers.
Give it some time. Had they made a beta mode then we probably would be knee deep in learning but only time tweaks an issue online. Updates will fix all that.
There are ways to make CSS3 work in IE (search on google for "normalize.css"), but I am unsure about HTML5. Personally, I don't care enough about IE to wait around.
