   What crafts are the best to make and sell?
   
   What crafts have you had luck making and selling? Did you sell at craft fairs? Did you sell online? What website did you use? Did you sell at a business for a percentage? Did you sell wholesale? Where did you get your supplies the cheapest?

   I have tried soap making using the melt and pour method, which is easier than the traditional cold process method. I spent around £50 to get started. I bought the soap base, some moulds and some colouring and essential oils. I do quite well selling at markets and craft fairs. I didn't have much luck on etsy and haven't tried ebay, although I got my supplies from ebay. It costs me around £1 to make the actual soap and I sell at craft fairs for £3 upwards.
   
   A friend of mine makes and sells her own jewellery and does quite well on Etsy. She does also do two or three craft fairs a year usually in spring, summer and just before christmas and does very well. I think it depends on what you are thinking of making.
   
   I used to make a lot of handmade greetings cards and stationery which I sold to friends. What type of thing are you thinking of selling?  You could start off small by having a few folk round and sell at a party, progress to craft markets and fairs and then test the market at Etsy and Ebay.

   I make crochet baskets and a few other things. I try to find patterns for stuff that is not the ordinary crochet stuff you see everywhere. I was also thinking of doing soaps. I have a book with some recipes that sound very nice. Maybe candles. I got an idea at a craft store and looked on etsy and didn't see anything like what I wanted to do.  I love doing mosaics, too. Thought I would do some circle plaques with specific designs, some wooden picture frames, and other small wooden items like birdhouses.
   
   I just don't have a lot of cash to start with. That is a big part of the problem. Although, I do have some crochet supplies. So, I thought I would start there.

   Hi ladies.  I haven't actually tried it yet, but was recently offered 10 apiece in selling my crocheted yarn potholders to a lady street vendor.  She currently sells her own hand-crocheted earrings, pins and other lacy styled accessories.  I explain how to make them on one of my hubs, and so far, the materials are free.  She told me openly that she would sell them at double the cost or 20 apiece.  Just about every homemaker I know needs this item, it makes a good gift and is useful.

   Now this is a tough question.  I have made and sold crafts off and on for many years and have always been looking for that one item that would sell really well.  Last year I made Raggedy Ann's some sold most did not.  People were not looking for them at the shows.  I did have an on-line shop to sell them also and did not sell any.  But people where I work were ordering them and I couldn't keep up with the orders a couple of years ago.  You just have to go to a couple of craft shows and look to see what people are buying, it's always a gamble.  I find my materials at a local Pat Catan's craft store and at Jo Ann's Fabric.

   Your question is certainly important to consider before making anything on a large scale.  I think most people enjoy discovering something unique at craft shows.  There is something to be said about keeping costs low. The joy of creating is really fun and getting to know fellow venders and customers makes it all worthwhile too.

   i haven't sell anything yet but i do make greeting cards and toy crafts from boxes. Just for family and relatives. My supplies are recycle items at home
