Creating "nature" pictures using leaves on recycled paper
Creating birdhouses-either make them or buy them pre-made and have the children paint them...once dry, hang on trees
If you live in an area which has vines, gather a bunch of smaller ones together and have the children weave wreaths. Decorate with leaves, pinecones and ribbons.
Create pinecone bird treat ornament. Take one pinecone, tie a string at the top, coat with peanut butter or lard, and roll in birdseed or sunflower seeds. Hang up.
Pick dandelions and daisies. Weave into flower crowns. (Not recommended for kids with allergies!)
Have the children gather nuts-walnuts, acorns, pecans-and using googly eyes and/or pipe cleaners, make small animals or creatures.
Have the children find chalk (in areas where it is plentiful) and draw pictures using 'natural' chalk rocks! They can also paint themselves using chalk pigments.
If you live in an area with natural clay, gather it together and make it wet enough to manipulate. Allow the children to create sculptures using clay and let air dry. It might take several days for the project to be completely dry. Paint. Spray with clay pot or acrylic sealer.
