I was just rereading some of his poems and remembered how much I love is voice and view of the world. He makes everything both small and yet large at the same time. It helps he is quite funny. You can find some of his work online.
This is one of my favorites: http://www.americanpoems.com/poets/Billy-Collins/433
I saw him read in Manhattan and it was wonderful, if you get the chance run to go check him out.

I admire Collins's work - it's not yet widely anthologized, but one poem that is widely read is his poem on reading poems (if my danged anthology for intro to lit weren't so heavy and clumsy it would be handy for m to offer the title....)
He seems to be kind of a new age sensitive guy, so his work on love and relationships appeals to women - and his sense of the vexedness of masculine life seems to speak to men.
Of course! I do think, after hearing him read, that some of his pieces are a bit flat. There is not quite enough space to fall between the lines in many of them, but the best are wonderful! Do you like Ed Hirsch?
