i know that poetry that rhymes is never encouraged at writing groups or courses any more...... i like prose but you can never remember them as easily can you??????  I never rhyme for rhyming's sake as my command of the english language is not as good as i would like it to be, and usually ends up tacky.... sometime they just do rhyme but not often

I think A real poet cannot be defined ralwus(Sir).I feel everyone has a poet inside him/her.

As Pablo picasso said "Every child is an artist".

      That's my take.

A famous French poet by the name of Arthur Rimbaud I believe summarized the poet thusly:
A poet makes himself a visionary through a long, boundless, and systematized disorganization of all the senses. All forms of love, of suffering, of madness; he searches himself, he exhausts within himself all poisons, and preserves their quintessences. Unspeakable torment, where he will need the greatest faith, a superhuman strength, where he becomes all men: the great invalid, the great criminal, the great accursed--and the Supreme Scientist! For he attains the unknown! Because he has cultivated his soul, already rich, more than anyone! He attains the unknown, and, if demented, he finally loses the understanding of his visions, he will at least have seen them! So what if he is destroyed in his ecstatic flight through things unheard of, unnameable: other horrible workers will come; they will begin at the horizons where the first one has fallen! end

Well maybe I won't be recognized as an author or writer, or even a poet. I sure hope I don't end up destroyed.

All legitimate writers and artists are destroyed in their own work.  And it is a tall order to live that...some of us go in and out of it...seeking the mundane world so that we don't completely become destroyed.  THIS is about writing and essence.

THIS is about recognition:  In this day and age, you must seek it, and if you do, honestly do...as you would with any job...it will come.  And all that work for NO money.  Because poets are actually the highest order of writer.  wink

Rhymed verse and poetry is the linguistic version of melody.  They endure with music.
