How to Make a Grinch Quilt Plus a Look at a Froggy Quilt

Glimmer Twin Fan and Millionaire Tips give us information on quilting

Glimmer Twin Fan shares with us the difference between hadn quilting and machine quilting. She provides much detail about quilting and leaves it up to you what type of quilting to choose as your favorite method

Millionaire tips provides us with a great deal of information about traditonal quilts that you will find interesting.

Quilt making has come a long way since the days when the ladies sat around a large frame and completed each part of a quilt by hand.

Today there are machines which do portions of the work 'for' the quilter. But it is still a task that requires attention to detail and commitment to a project that may take many months to complete. This is a gift that will last a lifetime.

The story behind this quilt began one year before the Christmas holidays. It was at that time that the idea began to take shape in my sister's head, kind of like those proverbial sugar plums.

Her daughter-in-law had professed her interest in all things Grinchy. That was when my sister had an idea...a most wonderful idea, so unlike the Grinch . Her marvelously wonderful idea was to make a quilt about Mr. Grinch.

Once she makes up her mid to make something for someone, she does it. This odyssey would last all year long. She spent a total of fifteen weeks composing, formulating, orchestrating, and creating the Grinch quilt pictured in this article.

'I learned so much as I made this. I know if I make another one it will take much less time,' she told me, and I could hear the relief in her voice. Relief that she accomplished her goal of finishing in time for Christmas and relief that now when she made a new one, it would be less of a challenge. A challenge. But one she knew she would be able to tackle with new knowledge.

This may be a project you would wish to complete for a friend or loved one. There are a vast array of designs and patterns available. Select what you like and get started on your quilting project.

...a little about the Grinch

Just in case you are not familiar with the Grinch. here is a little information about him. He is one of Dr Seuss fame. He is one of the most famous characters he invented. It is almost impossible in late November and the whole month of December to not find a Grinch movie or book a store or on television.

The Grinch had only a tiny piece of a heart it is said. It really bugged him every year when the 'Who's down in Whoville, the tall and the small' celebrated Christmas with all of the singing and joy and happiness. He had none of those feelings. His plan: steal Christmas packages including all of the trappings even the roast beast and Christmas would not come.

He did all of those despicable things. And something wonderful happened instead of what he planned.

Please read How the Grinch Stole Christmas to see what happens.

About the Material

You may want to know...the fabric is Robert Kauffman 100% quilt fabric. Inside of the layers of fabric is thin batting.

...A Grinch Tree Skirt

After the quilt was complete but with almost no time left before her trip to Florida for Christmas this year, another idea emerged. Of course!! A tree skirt. There must be a tree skirt.

It is pictured here ...completed almost as she was racing to the plane. Finished though and ready to be part of a spectacular gift for someone this year.

Your sister did a great job in constructing that Grinch quilt and the Christmas tree skirt as well in addition to your froggy quilt. Those are gifts that will last and be cherished for a long time! Nice to have such a talented seamstress in the family!

Wishing you a very Happy Easter today and may many blessings come your way. Will happily share this as the basic idea can be utilized with many other themes as well.

Hi Aufait

this quilt was a year and a half in construction. Granted this time around it would not take quite that long but quilting if done with great skill and care is very time consuming.

It becomes a work of art.

Angels are on the way to you and so are wishes for a very merry Christmas. ps

What great ideas for quilts! I love both the Grinch and the froggy quilts. If one is skilled and has a few hours of time available it could be possible to put one of these together by Christmas Day for someone special.

Sending Angels to you and yours. ps

Love it! I didn't get to finish mine before Christmas but I have all of the squares assembled. Question: I am struggling to satin stitch the postage stamp borders on my machine. With all of the curves it seems impossible to get a controlled neat appearance. How did you do it?

Hi, rebeccamealey...nice to see you again...I have no sewing skills either; maybe sewing a button on. One day maybe I will ask my sister to teach me. I hope others are inspired by her to make this quilt. Thank you for stopping by.
