How To Program HomeLink with Rolling Code Video

Program the Homelink System in your car first

Follow the steps in your car to program the homelink system to open your garage doors.

Each car may be different, but these steps will work for most cars.

  • First, reset the homelink system in the car by holding the first and third garage door opener buttons in the car until the status light flash.
  • Next, push the button to program
  • The button should start to flash slowlly
  • Then point the hand held garage door opener about ten inches from the sensor in the car. The sensor in my car is in the front a couple feet above the license plate.Hold the button until the brake lights flash three times.

If your garage door has rolling codes, proceed to the next set of steps.

Resetting the rolling codes on the garage door opener

Rolling codes are essentially a security code that is stored in memory on the remote device and the garage door opener. When a button is pushed on the remote control, it sends the security code and the command (to open or close the garage door). If the codes match, the garage door opener will execute the command.

After you programmed the homelink system in the car, to get it to send the rolling code follow these steps.

  • Park the car just outside the garage door
  • Open the plastic covering around the light of the garage door mechanism
  • There should be a learn now button
  • Press the "Learn Now" button on the garage door opener.
  • There is thirty seconds to press the garage door opener button in the car.
  • hold down the button and the light on the garage door opener will blink.
  • Let go of the button in the car and then press it again.

The garage door opener in the car should now be programmed to open and close the garage door.
