2009, 2010 Camaro - It Has Arrived!

I don't know why I'm so excited. It's not as if I'm running out to buy one (not that I wouldn't in two seconds if I could, sigh).

I can't help it, though. My mom had a '68 and it was sweet. Plain and simple. I have been in love with the 67-69 body style ever since. That was when they were hot. They looked like some kind of animal on the prowl.

Since then, hoo boy have they had some ugly camaros! Sorry if you're a fan of those big beastly things from the 70's and 80's, but they should have just called them something else.

Eventually the Camaro disappeared all together, allegedly due to low sales volume. People were trimming their mullets and buying smaller cars.

She's Ba-ack!

It had been a long time coming when GM announced that they were bringing back the Camaro. But I forgave them as soon as I found out that they'd be designing it after my favorite, beefy late sixties models. Again, I'm currently not in the, ah, position to purchase one but still, I am in love with this car and was happy to know I'd be seeing them on the road.

It has been a long few years since then and it seems like they just kept pushing back the release date, tantalizing us with ridiculously sexy concept drawings. Finally, in 2007, I got to see one at the Auto Expo. It was just a shell - nothing worked and you couldn't get in, but I stood next to its fire.

The early version from the car show, a fave.

Another ridiculously awesome concept rendering.

At some point in the very recent past, the first coupes crept off the line and quietly made their way onto the roads. You can also rent one from Avis. I have got to figure out a way to make that a business expense.

As far as performance goes, initial road tests have the '09 models coming in above both Chrysler and Ford (surprise, surprise), besting the Mustang as well as the Challenger.

I knew it would. This is like finding out that Santa Claus is real after all and I finally get to do a little "neiner neiner neiner" dance about it for all those who doubted.

Here She Is, Sitting At An Actual Real-Life Dealership Somewhere...

Note that this model has some additional body modifications (add-ons available from factory). I like them.

Like a Silver Bullet

And for the Grande Finale~

I'll leave you with the image of the Hennessy package, a super hi-pro Camaro coming to dealerships later this year. It is a beautiful freak of nature, having been hybrid with the Corvette ZR1. The coolest thing about this, besides that it's even more awesome looking than a regular Camaro, is that it has the 705 hp LS9 engine. This means that it gets up and gets it. Imagine driving this thing, oh my, my, my.

It runs about $100,000 USD so it might be several months after its release before you see me out and about in it. Perhaps I'll make enough with the whole AdSense thing to put a down payment on one. I would then have to hold a contest to give someone the chance to be taken for the ride of their life. I would also have to consider moving to Deutschland to get in on this whole Autobahn business. How many speeding tickets can I get before I'm imprisoned - or worse, have my Camaro taken away?!

But, I am getting ahead of myself. For now, I will gaze at my concept pictures and keep perfecting the look I shall have on my face as I drive past those doubters earlier alluded to. I can envision it now: my hair whipping in tendrils behind my beaming face, Santa Claus in Bermuda shorts in the passenger seat giving them the finger. Beautiful, man.

..and without further ado, the Hennessy Camaro (swoon)

It really does look ssssweeet! :D I heard Chevrolet just confirmed that they're offering a Transformers Bumblebee edition for the 2010 Camaro. If they can make it with a button to make it transform into Bumblebee, I'm selling my soul to get one! Haha! :P

Oh, Susan, that is sooo cool!! Yeah, if it transforms - especially if it talks and everything - I'll be next in line at the soul depository! lol ;) Can you imagine? That would be AWESOME....*fantasizing*

Yup i agree the first generation of camaros was definitely the best especially the 69 woo those are sweet.

im liking the new camaros but not very many are being sold at dealers only on ebay and those sorts of things. and they aint cheap on ebay theyve been selling them around 43k which is a little crazy for me.

arcadegamer - I finally saw one here in my town on the freeway yesterday. It was red and lovely. Perhaps over time, some super-rich playboy types will have them flown in and you'll see them stalking the roads over there.

Where in Europe? We could start a human rights campaign and try to get Camaros for your people!!!! LOL Thanks for coming by!

I always liked the Camaro, a friend of mine in the mid-70's owned one and let me drive it once in awhile. I've wanted one ever since, and the new models you have shown here wouldn't disappoint!

Hey Mike,

Apologies for the sloooow response - been away. Very nice! The new models are so very lovely. However, I must be honest and say that when I had the chance to get inside one recently I was a little disappointed with a few things. For one, the visibility is really terrible. Still, though, I think they are stunning and I imagine that GM could work out the kinks over the next several years (i.e. by the time I might possibly have a chance of being able to afford one!!). Thanks for commenting!

Great hub. Can't wait for the 2011 model to hit the streets. The convertibles look pretty sweet!

Fantastic looking car, like yourself I prefered the older models to the 70's ands 80's versions.

There is a yellow one with black stripes (same as bumblebee in transformers) sitting in the chevrolet garage beside my work and I have to drive past it everyday, one of these days I know I will drive into the back of the car in front because of swooning over the Camaro.

Voted up and beautiful.

Thanks, Anthony! Yes, they're more than a little distracting. :) I appreciate your input!
