Moped and Scooter Safely Tips
The high gas prices have encouraged many people to think about an alternative forms of transport to high cost automobiles and ATV's. Mopeds and scooters are cheap to buy and very economical to run but if you are considering purchasing one you must make sure that you are aware of safety considerations relevant to these types of vehicles. If you are used to driving an automobile you will find riding a moped very different. Mopeds and scooters are small and you are more vulnerable than when encased in a car. They are also less visible to other road users and you must also make sure you abide by all the regulations of the road.
Make Sure You Are Legal
Licensing laws vary between countries and states so make sure you check out your local regulations before taking one out on the road to make sure you are legal. In some countries mopeds can be ridden by young people at sixteen, a year before it is legal to drive a car. It is safe to ride a moped as long as you are aware of the particular safety issues involved. If you are used to driving a car then you need to be aware of the differences between riding a moped and driving a car. It is also common for people, especially teenagers, to think that they do not have to abide by regulations as other road users and this can be very dangerous.
Mopeds and Scooters for Teenagers
As mopeds and scooters are cheap to buy and to run they are often bought by parents for their teenagers. It is essential therefore that parents make sure, before they allow their offspring in the road aboard a moped, that they have training in their safe use and are aware of the dangers involved. An untrained person on a moped can be a danger to themselves as other people on the roads. As parents it is our duty not to allow irresponsible behavior on the roads.
Moped and Scooters Safety Issues
Mopeds and scooters are much smaller than other vehicles on the road and you may not be as visible to other road users as you think. It is necessary for the moped rider to be constantly alert for problems and be prepared to move out of the way to avoid danger. It is not safe to assume that other motorists can see them and that they will be able to avoid them in a dangerous situation. Moped riders should always obey all the rules of the road and never do anything dangerous such as darting in and out of traffic, going through red lights or proceeding down a highway the wrong way. Mopeds are not toys and should never be treated as such.
Scooters and mopeds are fun to ride, economical and safe as long as they are ridden responsibly. The rider should be alert at all times and aware of all the other road users. They are becoming increasingly popular as a means of transport around the local area or in towns and cities, but not so good if the weather is bad or fro very long distances. For teenagers, they are cheap and easy to ride and safe if they are ridden responsibly by a trained person.
