Kyle Busch wins Race #2

Season Recap: Race 1-2

The 2014 season started at Daytona. Regan Smith started the season off with a big win for JR Motorsports driving his #7 Ragu Chevy to victory lane. Smith led 35 laps to grab 47 total points and jump to an early lead in the point standings.

Sprint Cup regular Brad Keselowski finished in second place while Trevor Bayne brought his #6 Roush Fenway Racing Ford into the third slot and earned 41 points for his effort. Other Sprint Cup regulars who finished in the top 10 were Kyle Busch who finished fourth and Kyle Larson who came in at ten place. Ryan Sieg who drives in the Truck Series finished in the ninth spot.

Nationwide drivers Elliott Sadler(5th), Brendan Gaughan(6th), Ty Dillion(7th) and Dylan Kwasniewski(8th) also earned a top 10 finish in the first race of the new season.


The second race of the season was run at Phoenix. The race was shortened because of rain but it wouldn't have matter as Kyle Busch dominated to win the race. He lead 155 laps to cruise to victory. The Top five places all went to Sprint Cup regulars as Kevin Harvick came in second followed by Brad Keselowski. Kyle Larson finished fourth and Matt Kenseth finished fifth.

Elliott Sadler was the highest finishing Nationwide driver with his sixth place finish. Trevor Bayne came in in seventh place while Regan Smith finished in eighth place. Chase Elliott got his first top 10 with his ninth place finished. Ty Dillon got his second straight top 10 coming in in tenth place.

The Young Guns: Rookie of the Year Battle

We are two races into the season and Ty Dillion has made his mark with two top ten finishes. He currently sits in fourth place in the championship standings to lead all rookies. He is not alone as Dlyan Kwasniewski is in fifth place only four points behind Dillion. Chase Elliott is the third rookie in the standings. He currently sits in seventh place, seven points behind Dillion. Ryan Reed is 23 points behind Dillion, he currently sits in 12th place. Dakoda Armstrong is in 14th place only 24 points behind Dillion.

Look for Dillion, Kwasniewski and Elliott to battle all year long for the Rookie of the Year Award.
