The Jet Age Car: 1959 Cadillac Cyclone
The 1950's brought in the jet age, all stemming from the German jet engines captured and copied and improved upon from 1945. Rockets and UFOs were in many ads and car design reflected this as well. Starting in 1954ish, cars started to have fins or a jet-like look.
The most famous of these came at the end of "fin" craze in car design, the 1959 Cadillac Cyclone. It would be at home with The Jetsons. This concept car was never in production, although it could have. Only a few exist. The car and many unique design features such as, sliding doors (like today's mini-vans), actual radar in the front to detect objects for parking, its exhaust pipes were not in the rear, but the front near the wheels. One version had a bubble top for its hardtop and very large fins resembling jet wings. Another version had small wings. The car was a two seater, powered with a 389 cu. in V8. It was 196 in. long and weighed in at 4600 lbs. It was a mere 44 in. tall, and had a wheelbase of 104 in.
Wherever the car appears, it draws a ton of people at such a beautiful car.
