Used BMW Motorcycles
The benefits of buying a used BMW motorcycle are numerous, but the primary one as with all second hand vehicles is price. Other benefits include any initial manufacturer problems being ironed out, familiarity with any negatives (reported by other fellow BMW riders) and even second hand parts like decals or motorcycle luggage become available easier.
Used BMW Motorcycles can be found in a number of places. Which I have listed below, however before purchasing it is a good idea to decide on which model of BMW motorcycle you are after, they are especially known for their touring motorcycles now and as popular in Europe.
With this knowledge you can research the model of choice more and know what to look out for when viewing a motorcycle you intend to buy. If you are buying a newer motorcycle such age a 1 - 3 year old one, then it a good idea to check no finance is due too, as you will be liable as the new owner to pay for it.
If you are not hot on the mechanic side of things then it is wise to bring a friend who is or hire a company to do a point check at various things around the motorcycle, they will also take it for a quick ride and know what potential problems to listen out for.
Where to Find Used BMW Motorcycles
First you can try BMW themselves. However this is usually the most expensive
way. They can usually have a selection of their newish models, although
they have much more incentive to sell you a new one, you may occasionally find a good just traded-in model you are after though. BMW car garages also stock the motorcycles in many cases, so don't rule them out
Next you can try specialist BMW motorcycle dealers online. There are many companies which advertise and keep their specialty to one brand of motorcycle and these can be the best ones to go for as they are always more efficient in finding the model you need
Your local advertisements are a great way to find nearby BMW motorcycles too.
Newspapers, craigslist, gumtree, and other local selling newspaper/magazine will have a large stock and chances are that will include the motorcycle of your dreams.
eBay is a reasonable source but it can be unreliable and you may be waiting
months for the right bike and even then may get outbid at the last
moment, devastating! You should still try and check the motorcycle before you bid to avoid disappointment too. Many sellers are happy to negotiate outside of eBay too.
A better idea is to search on BMW owners forums. The chances are their is a lot of enthusiasts for your model and they usually include a for sale section where you can find a motorcycle looked after by an enthusiast so it is likely to be in good condition. You will often find the best prices for your desired motorcycle here, and have the option to negotiate cheaper too.
