What Are the Differences Between the 91-93 and 94 Mercury Capri Car?
They are subtle, yet distinguishing features. Why did Ford Mercury decide to change things after making the 91-93 Mercury Capri for three years? Why did they make the changes for the 94 model when they were going to stop production that year?
Whatever the rationale was, many auto parts sellers don't really know what the differences are, and if you are seeking a spoiler from a 94 Capri XR2, the parts guy may claim he has one, when in reality, it is a 91-93 spoiler. This has happened to me. The same about other parts.
So, what are the changes:
1. Front and rear bumpers
2. Center console
3. 5-spoke wheels
4. Tail Lights
5. Passenger side on dash
6. Different radio
7. Rear spoiler on the XR2 (it has a built-in 3rd LED light). The 91-93 models do not have this.
8. Leather interior was available
Some of the differences are more noticeable, like the tail lights, which are a vast improvement, the 5 spoke wheels and bumpers, which are racier looking and the center console. Finding many of these parts to put on your 91-93 models is already difficult to find as they only sold 4000 in the US. Many were not even the XR2 model. All of them will fit onto the earlier models, but you will pay a steep price for them!
