What do you think about texting while driving?

Saw that a Mass. teen was convicted yesterday of motor vehicle homicide by texting. He swerved into oncoming traffic, crashed headfirst into a truck and killed a 55 yo father of 3. What surprised me was, in the comments, there were a number of peopl who felt the penalty was too severe or argued that "everybody does it..." What do you think about texting while driving?

I know that talking on a cell while driving is illegal in CT, and I think that's a good idea. If you need to talk, pull over.

Evidently the conviction I was talking about is the first on record. Maybe more people will take this seriously when there are real consequences

I'm so sorry to hear that. A needless death of an innocent victim.

I have toyed with the idea of making a "HANG UP AND DRIVE" sign I could hold up in the window when I see people doing this. Hard to believe that they don't know or care how much danger they're putting themselves and others in.

You're right about the danger- and if people won't take the danger seriously, some of them may at least take legal consequences to heart
