Do you mean the first car you ever drove? Or do you mean the first car ever owned?
The first car I ever drove was a 1953 Austin A50. I had about half-a-dozen lessons and then got my car driver's licence. That was in 1955 at age nineteen. In 1958 to1960 I drove motor cycles: a 500 cc Triumph Speed Twin, which I traded in for a 650cc Triump Thunderbird. I then traded this in and bought a 700cc Royal Enfiled Comet.
In 1961 I bought my first car. It was a 1958 Volskwagn Beetle and, quite frankly, I loved it. It was a great little car. By then I was a married man with one small baby and it suited us fine as a family car. In those days there were no seatbelt restrictions and we'd simply put the basinet with baby in it behind the back seat where it just fitted perfectly.
I was so impressed with VW Beetles that, when I had to part with it because of a move overseas, I bought another Beetle, a 1965 model in 1965. And as you probably know, they were the World's top seller for decades. Great cars!
