10 Amazingly Creative Billboards That are Sure to get your Attention

I decided to do this top 10 list after one of the billboard pictures in a previous hub and found that billboards have come a long way since the boring rectangular style. No longer are companies just sticking their logo any old place but rather make the billboard more memorable. They are almost like works of art, incorporating 3D elements into them making them a billboard that is sure to be remembered!

10. Ikea Furniture Billboard

Ikea are infamous for their large, impressive billboards, but I think this one tops the lot. In 2008, Ikea came out with a range of billboards promoting their new holiday catalogue for Christmas. They made four different styles of billboard each with a different word on (Paix (peace), Joy, Love and Hope). The cool thing is, they made the letters out of their furniture giving the billboard a nice 3D effect while showing off their brand new goods!

9. Mars Tongue Billboard

Mars got ya' tongue? Some people are really desperate for a bit of chocolate now and then especially if it's for a mars bar! Unfortunately this guy's stuck on the nouget and caramel filled chocolate delight. Promoting Mars Bar's new Mars Ice this billboard was created to show a (extremely long!) tongue coming out of one billboard and getting stuck on another! Billboards with 3D effects are an easy win :D

8. Silberman's Fitness Center Billboard

Talk about too much cake! I really like this billboard, it's simple but effective and gives a clear message. The people of Silberman's Fitness Center in Chattanoonga, Tennessee created this billboard to promote their gym and their message is simple. "If you're fat and you're attached to the side of a billboard, you're gonna tilt!" Only joking, but it does urge people to visit or read about their gym or even to go on a diet.

7. Alpen Gold Chocolate Billboard

One small step for (wo)man, one giant leap for our kind... Chocolate is loved by people all around the world and some people are more desperate to get it than others. Although this woman isn't real, it really does look like a woman climbed up the billboard to try to reach the chocolate. Alpen Gold really does have the right idea, it certainly got my attention! Hopefully no-one took it for a real person and began to ring the police...

Almost.... there.....
Almost.... there.....

6. Bubble Gum Billboard

*POP!* Uh oh! The billboard boy has popped his gum and its come into the real world again! I really love the billboards where the product or item from the billboard 'comes out' of the billboard and into the surrounding areas. This bubble gum billboard in Bombay has a simple idea as the billboard itself is only 2D, it gives the idea of a bigger picture when the other popped gum is seen in our surroundings.

POP!
POP!

5. Maker's Mark Whiskey Billboard

Wow the guy who's pouring that must feel really satisfied! The smooth whiskey pours out of the hand crafted bottle into the truck giving it a real 3D effect. This is another great example of the billboard product 'coming out' of the billboard and interacting with its surroundings. Man, I'm getting thirsty!

4. PSP Billboard

Now this one's good! The thing about this billboard is that it can't just be placed anywhere in the world as this billboard is made specifically for the location it is placed. It is made to look like a transparent screen with the character in the background, but in reality it's not transparent and it's made to look like it is. Once they do that they can add anything to the background such as Spiderman! Sony really has the right ideas for their billboards, this one's pretty effective!

Spiderman, Spiderman...
Spiderman, Spiderman...

3. Miele Vacuum Billboard

Nothing gets your attention like a giant vacuum sucking in a hot air balloon from the sky! That's just what this billboard shows you, the giant vacuum (which is actually just flat) sucking up a 3D hot air balloon as if it has been sucked from the sky. It was designed by Miami Ad School and then made into the billboard by Miele. This billboard is great because not only will it get your attention, it shows how the company is trying to tell you how strong their vacuums are!

Thar she blows!
Thar she blows!

2. Toothpaste Billboard

Omnomnom billboard! This is one of my personal favorite billboards as they really make it look like he's ripping 'himself' off! The ad is done by Formula Toothcare to show how strong their toothpaste can make your teeth and I've gotta say, it works. Of course you're not going to be able to rip a billboard off with your teeth if you use their toothpaste but hey, it's still pretty awesome!

ARGH!
ARGH!

1. The Economist Billboard

Ok, this is it, an interactive billboard! There are a few interactive billboards out there but this one really captures the art of the interactivity, giving it a simple, effective feel. The Economist is a well known magazine capturing the worlds current events, politics, the economy and business. Their billboard consists of a giant 3D lightbulb with sensors beneath it. Every time a person walks under the bulb it turns on as if the person has an idea sowing that their magazine is smart and full of ideas. This truly is a great billboard being both 3D and interactive and you're sure to remember it as it's just that sweet!
