Do you own a small business, a medium sized business, or do you own a large company? Have you been spending thousands on yellow pages advertising, newspaper adverts, radio adverts etc?
There are countless businesses large and small… Tradesmen… Builders… Doctors… Lawyers… Dentists… Restaurant owners… Hairdressers… Window cleaners… Dry cleaners… Photographers… You name it… I could go on and on, the list is endless. Do you come under one of these categories?
The fact is businesses all over the world are leaving massive amounts of money on the table, and not taking advantage of the fact that you can advertise a business for free.
If you are just starting out in business it is vital that you know about this especially if your budget is limited.
You probably won’t be surprised when I tell you that advertising on the radio is very expensive, and even if you have a vast advertising budget it will be difficult for you to get a decent return on investment, so for most businesses going down that route is probably going to be a waste of time and money.
What about newspaper advertising? Well if you advertise your business in your local paper it will certainly be a lot cheaper than radio, but large adverts are still expensive, and a small business listed in a newspaper probably won’t get noticed often, if at all.
Don’t get me wrong newspaper advertising can work extremely well, but unless you know how to create an advert that compels people to become one of your customers, your going to throw a lot of money down the toilet, but that’s a subject all on it’s own.
For years now most businesses and trades people have relied heavily on yellow pages, some spending thousands on large adverts, the majority though having at the very least a free listing.
I can tell you for a fact that many of whom have spent thousands on full page adverts have been severely disappointed with the results. Have you noticed yellow pages get smaller and smaller over the years?
Yellow pages is finished. More and more people are looking online now to find you, so the internet is the only way forward to advertise your business.
But isn’t that expensive? I thought this hub was about advertising a business for free.
You’re absolutely right on the button, internet advertising can be very expensive. That’s probably why so many smaller businesses in particular don’t even have a website. Their put off by the costs, and hope to somehow advertise with business cards and word of mouth.
Even larger companies aware of the need to adapt to the internet may have a very professional looking website, but still it’s just sitting around in cyberspace not doing much. There are SEO specialists charging exorbitant amounts of money to get your website on the first page of Google, and therefore floods of customers.
So what about advertising a business for free? What do all these large companies, and individuals Doctors, dentists, hairdressers, dry cleaners and the like… What secret are they unaware of, that I’m about to tell you right now?
Advertising a business for free on the internet
Well it’s not really a secret, it’s sitting right under your nose, you probably just haven’t noticed it…
You see even if you’re a small self employed individual, or if you haven’t started a business yet, maybe it’s just an idea right now.
If you are, what I am about to tell you will put you way ahead of all those large companies with websites that know nothing about SEO or internet advertising.
You see every local business large and small has had a goldmine put right in front of them, most of them are just not fully aware of it.
They’ve been given a free page in first place on Google, with all the expensive SEO work done for them, getting them straight ahead of all the competition!
What’s more if you’re a small local painter or gardener your competition won’t have a clue.
So what’s the secret… It’s called Google Places.
Here’s how to step way ahead of your competition and start advertising a business for free.
Step 1: Type into you computer “Google places” and register your business. I won’t go into to much detail here, it’s self explanatory you just fill out your business address and information.
Step 2: Now you may notice that lot’s of people have already done step one, possibly even your competition, but the vast majority stop there and fail to take step two - the most important step, and here it is…
Take advantage of all that your Google Places page allows you… It is a goldmine.
Here is a very simple thing you can implement straight away after you’ve read this hub to put you ahead of your competition.
Search for any local business or service in your area, for example plumbers in (your town) and you will see that Google’s SEO Experts have got them in first place.
But here’s the thing… It’s just a plain list. Most of them don’t have photographs or even a website! If a customer comes across this which one is she going to click on?
It’s a case of pin the tale on the donkey. It’s just pot luck, or a hit and a miss. Which one would you choose?
Now I’ll ask you another question, if one of them had a photograph which one would you choose?
Of course - The one with the photograph, so if you want to stand out from your competition all you need to do is upload a photograph to your Google Place page, how simple is that to instantly stand out from your competition? And yet so few are doing it.
Here’s another tip: Having your keyword phrase in the title is key to getting first place on Google, this goes even further than that though, here is something else your competition don’t have a clue about… Choosing your keyword carefully not only get’s you to the top of Google, it get’s you to the top of all the other people on Google Places!
Now Google know this so you aren’t allowed to use keyword phrases instead of your business name, but a good trick would be to have your business name as say “A & D Plumbers of (your town)” you would get away with that. What you wouldn’t get away with is “Plumbers in (your town)”
