Dental Industry - Rewarding or Now?

Here you will find out everything you will need to know about the dental industry, focusing on how much a dental hygienist salary really is and what things can affect it.

Whether you are thinking about becoming a dental hygienist or currently in this position I'm sure there will be some valuable hints and tips that can help you get the most from your career in this hub.

Average Annual Salary

The average salary for dental hygienist's varies dramatically by each state in the US due to skill level and demand. The average salary for dental hygienist's in the united states according to a recent study is $65,000, when this is compared to the average salary in the US across all industries it is very good as that's only $40,000, an extra $25,000 by anyone's standards is huge and this alone is a great point for entering the dental industry.

The dental industry wages are on average higher than the nation average.

Lowest Annual Salary

Looking at the above average annual salary makes a lot of people want to rush out and get started in the dental industry but it must be remembered that this is just an average that has been taken from all working dental hygienist's.

As the average is the middle the lower end has to be looked at, from the same study the lowest annual wage for a dental hygienist is $45,000. This is very good news for anyone looking to join the industry as this is the base line pay which is still above the nation average in the country and this number can only rise with higher skill levels and experience.

Highest Annual Salary

This is the part that everyone want's to know about the highest amount of money that can be made from working as a dental hygienist.

This is the top end average annual salary that comes from the recent report of all the current working dental hygienist's in the US. $90,000 is the average highest salary for hygienist at the present time, this is a very good wage to be earning which is over double the nation average.

Of course this wage is dependent on many factors, all of which we will discuss below.

Gain as much experience as you can.
Gain as much experience as you can.

Salary Factor #1 - Experience

There are many things that can affect how salaries are made up in all jobs and industries not just the dental industry, some of these things can be controlled by yourself but others are down to time and experience and that is what we're going to go over first.

Experience! Experience! Experience!
This is one of those things that comes with time and effort, there are no short cuts to this one unfortunately apart from doing the work and gaining that valuable experience.

With more experience come a noticeably higher pay packet when compared to those without it, for instance someone who has been in the industry for 20 years and has worked in a number of different establishments, performing an uncountable amount of procedures would could be earning between $5,0000 to $15,000 more than someone who is new to the trade.

This seems quite a small amount when you think how long they have been working but this is only one of the things that can affect a salary and you have to look at it as a bonus, you have to work some where until you can retire which means you gain experience which in tow means a higher salary so treat as a nice little bonus! One last note that I think needs to be made is when we're talking about a possible $15,000 higher salary that is almost half of what the average american earns a year which kind of puts things into perspective, the dental trade has the possibility of great benefits.
