Dignity Of Labor

Updated on January 28, 2016

There is an old saying, "Life is short, but art is long." We are surrounded with work and we have to travel a long path full of our duties and work. The sun, the moon, the stars and the constellation are moving on. Similarly every living being from small insect to the large elephant is working for their existence and growth. We take lessons from nature, nature is not still. Man is moving with the passage of time to the endless journey. But not all people become successful in this journey. Why so? What becomes the differentiation factor between different peoples in case of being successful and not being successful? The answer is pretty simple: labor! Without labor, one just cannot expect to prosper in life. That’s for sure. This is the thing that is the difference between success and failure. Here we will discuss about the different aspects of dignity of labor.

Importance of Labor:

We all know that Industry is the mother of good luck. God has given us hands to work with. The great souls of the world used to do their work with their hands. We have our needs, hunger and dreams for the future prospect. We have to earn money to meet the cost of our daily necessaries. Labor occupies our work ranging from the space to the deep sea. Without labor, we would not have food, clothes and shelter. But a man should work hard honestly and do his work faithfully. Samuel Smiles says, "It is not a disgrace to be a shoemaker, but it is certainly a great disgrace to make bad shoes." So, if we exert labor, we may get confidence in return. With labor, we can also get expert in the field that we will work and thus the whole scenario can change drastically.

Importance of Labor in National Development:

In our national life the importance of labor is undeniable. An idle national can never prosper. The world is colorful and labor is essential to ensure success in every sphere of life. From top to bottom, lower class to higher class, all people should work hard for the overall development of the nation. The greatest friends of men are his ten fingers. He is embellished with honor and fame by virtue of his work. There is hardly any nation in the history of mankind that has been able to prosper without labor. So that nation is the best where every people are giving labor in their respective fields and keeping contribution in the development of their nation.

Our Attitude to Labor:

If we realize the importance of labor in our human life, we will have to readier appreciation of the dignity of labor. Without labor nothing is brought to life. It is truly written in an ancient Jewish book. "Every carpenter and work master that laboreth night and day; the smith also by the anvil; the potter sitting at his work; all these trust to his hand, and everyone is wise in his work. Without these a city cannot be inhabited."

In fine, it is said that honest work of all kinds is dignified and worthy of respect. Even an employee of humble profession ought to be respected instead of being regarded with contempt. The only thing we should be ashamed of is idleness and trying to live by without labor. There is a saying that, "Work is worship and to work is to pray." We should always remember that an honest workman stands high in honor. With working, one can be able to achieve the desired goal in life. And if anyone gets the desired thing in life, what better than one can expect?

Success and Labor Are Interrelated:

This is obviously true without any kind of doubt. You cannot expect to be successful without labor! Remember one thing for sure. You will never be able to achieve your goal if you do not give effort behind it. Can you expect to become successful by just sitting idle in one place? If you stick to one thing with continuous labor, then success will be there at your feet. Remember the achievements of Robert Bruce? He failed to win the war against the English 6 times but still he did not give up. That brought him success in the 7th attempt and he successfully defeated the English and was able to accomplish the task. If a king can achieve his goal in a risky place like a battlefield, why will you not be able to achieve yours in the normal life procedure? So you should go on with your task and success will be yours undoubtedly.

So those who are seeking success in their respective lives should give up all the tensions and stick with labor consistently. Then there will be no obstacle that will be able to keep one away from being successful. Give your best try in life and then you will see how beautiful the life can be. So instead of wasting any sort of time, just give labor and you will get the success that you are looking for.
