Encouragement for the Unemployed

As unemployment continues in the United States, the overall morale is dismaying. I've been unemployed three separate times since 2008. Sometimes, when I feel hopeless, I blame the economy or the government. Other times, I blame myself and think that I must not be good enough for any company. It's hard not to second guess your worth as a skilled and useful citizen, when you fill out many applications and (in a good month) go on one or two interviews. What I've found is, in order to survive any period of unemployment, you have to do your best at job searching, count your blessings, take one day at a time, and use humor to generate laughter (it's better then crying). Peruse these quotes and pictures that will help you realize you are a unique individual that was placed on this earth for a purpose.

Thanks, f! I like them, too. :)

Anyway, keep trucking on; you never know what inqiries may lead to locally; teachers; local businesses; parlors, volunteer opportunities.

Blessings.

I shall, my friend. I have an interview next week for an assistant teaching position for an adult education program at a local technical college. So, at least, right now, I have some hope.

Oh good! I'm so glad to hear this!

Keep praying!

Blessings.

Thanks; will do.

I just found out about another interview. It will take place in a few hours. :)

Hey, this is wonderful, too. Maybe another teaching assistant possibility?

Blessings.

This is for a retail job, but I like working retail; I get to help people. I would love to have both jobs actually. The teaching assistant job is for working at night.

Sounds good; and mom and dad, whom you've mentioned, will sure be relieved, too.

Blessings.

PS(I think you said you've done retail at various chains before.)

Helen Keller's! I love it when words can be moved around like that and still hold one of the keys to the meanings of life.

"I long to accomplish a great and noble task, but it is my chief dutry to accomplish small tasks as if they were great and noble." - Helen Keller

That is what I wish for as well! Great hub. =) It's totally making me feel better about having to put in an application at Aldi's grocery store.

Hope the interview goes well! Blessings.

Meisjunk: I love that quote, too! I'm glad this hub gave you positive vibes. I feel your pain. I've applied to so many jobs over the years! Thanks for commenting. :)

f: Yes, my parents will be so happy when I get a job. Thank you; I think the interview went well. :)

Glad to hear it went well; they don't always tell you there and then if you were successful, of course. Keep on trucking with the inquiries! Blessings.

Yes, one can never really quite know how it went until they let you know something. I will keep up the job hunt; looking forward to my interview on Tuesday.

This is the retail interview, right; on Tues. Hope it also goes well.

Today was the retail interview. Tuesday is the assistant teaching position one. Thanks!

Oh okay! So would these involve having to go far, use a lot of gas, etc? these days, gas is quite a consideration.

Blessings.

Ebower profile image

Ebower 5 years ago from Georgia Author

Yes, the amount of gas used is definitely an issue when considering employment. Both jobs would not be very far from my house at all; 10 to 15 minutes at the most.

Oh well this is good; it's an important consideration, anyway. You might in some ways like to live in a place such as LA or NYC, for all the fashion and design opportunities, maybe. But getting work in one's home locality does have its benefits.

Blessings.

That would be amazing to live in a larger city, but that won't happen until I can afford it.

Thanks, Injured lamb! That quote inspires me as well (especially as a Hubpages writer). Thanks for your comment. :)

'That would be amazing to live in a larger city, but that won't happen until I can afford it.'

Sounds as if you would love it.

Finding fellowship there would be an issue as well, of course.

Blessings.

I would like it, because there would be many things to do in a large city. That's true; I had a hard time making friends when I lived in a larger city in the recent past.

At least you had your roommate, right?

You seemed to have thoroughly shared some common interests, anyway.

Blessings.

It was good for awhile, but we grew apart; it happens.

Anyway, you were certainly into jewelry, body art etc.

Is she a Christian?

I am currently unemployed fresh out of college due to the dreaded "lack of experience" even though I'm overqualified for any other jobs. A complete mess!

So i enjoyed looking at these! Nice hub!

Ebower profile image

Ebower 5 years ago from Georgia Author

I'm so sorry you're in that situation. You're not the only one. I've had several different jobs since 2007 when I graduated from college. Unfortunately, I'm sure other people from your graduating class are in your same situation. Keep hanging in there.

I'm glad you liked this! :)

Anyway, my two cents' are: in days of unemployment, and when the body art industry is a growth area, and if it doesn't offend you and you're reasonably comfortable with it: while it may not be one's first choice, no need to close one's mind completely to work in this field.

Blessings.

Ebower profile image

Ebower 5 years ago from Georgia Author

Thanks for the advice!

YW. (smile)

I guess, too, that it would depend on how long the unemployment lasted, the matter of how seriously you would consider some involvement with the greatly growing body art industry. (Receptionist only, maybe, or possibly also some body art skill training, too.)

I do hope you find something soon, anyway.

Blessings.

Ebower profile image

Ebower 5 years ago from Georgia Author

Yes, you're right. Thanks; me too.

YW. Like, you'd rather not get into it, but if there's nothing else you might feel compelled to give it a try eventually, right?

Ebower profile image

Ebower 5 years ago from Georgia Author

Perhaps; if I couldn't find anything else and the opportunity presented itself.

Well, it's a growth industry. (But you might find that your mom would at first try to dissuade you, anyway.)

Blessings.

Ebower profile image

Ebower 5 years ago from Georgia Author

I'm sure I'll find something before I do that, but thank you.

YW. Glad to know you're confident, anyway. :)

Blessings.

Ebower profile image

Ebower 5 years ago from Georgia Author

I'm trying to think positively, but it's not always easy.

I understand. Keep praying. And I guess I would also say, don't completely close your mind to parlor work - a real growth area - in some capacity or other. (I realize that for you it might be a bit of a mental hurdle at first.)

Blessings.

PS: But don't do anything against your conscience.

Blessings.

Ok; will do.

Remember, with all job hunting: the golden rule is, keep your options open!

Blessings.

Ebower profile image

Ebower 5 years ago from Georgia Author

That is very wise advice, f!

How's your job hunt going, btw? how did your second interview go, recently

Blessings.

Ebower profile image

Ebower 5 years ago from Georgia Author

It seemed to go well, but I didn't get the job. :( It's back to the drawing board for me!

Well, not to worry. Keep praying. Like I said, keep your options open. As long as it wouldn't go against your conscience after praying about it, you might not want to exclude the greatly growing body art industry as at least a possibility (especially since you already know a lot about it).

Blessings.

Ebower profile image

Ebower 5 years ago from Georgia Author

Ok, thanks. At least I am making some money here at Hubpages. :) I will continue to walk through open doors that God leads me to.

Sometimes God can lead through unexpected doors, right? (He has for me, anyway.)

'Options open'!

Blessings.

Ebower profile image

Ebower 5 years ago from Georgia Author

Yes, He definitely has opened some interesting ones for me in the past. :)

Exactly. Don't be surprised if He does so again. He never acts contrary to His Word. But God being God is so far greater than our understanding. Blessings.

PS: Your recent job offer can be an encouragement in itself.

Ebower profile image

Ebower 5 years ago from Georgia Author

Those are such encouraging words and you are so right!

Proves it's good to keep praying, too! Blessings.

So how's the tutoring going? has it meaningfully brought you out of unemployment now? Blessings.

Ebower profile image

Ebower 4 years ago from Georgia Author

I haven't actually officially started tutoring yet. I've pretested all 5 students and I just found out today that I will definitely be tutoring those specific high schoolers. As soon as the materials from the company in Florida reach me by mail, I will set up the tutoring sessions and start instructing the students. I think I'm going to enjoy it and I will be busy enough. Since I'm living with my parents, I will be able to pay all of my bills. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

'Praise God from whom all blessings flow' ...'Praise Him all creatures here below'.

YW and keep trusting and praying. Blessings.

PS: How is your tutoring job going these days? I was wondering. Maybe it can sometimes go in busy and slack periods, depending on the students' circumstances, really. Blessings.
