Using the Google Adwords Keyword Tool to Maximise Your Income

I don't normally choose to write about this kind of  " maximising your profit " stuff, but I have to say I have been looking into Google Adwords Keyword Tool for the last 24 hours, and I am wildly impressed at the profit potential it offers online writers such as the hubpage community.

Not only does it list the most frequently searched for words in any category you choose to input into the search, but with a couple of clicks it will give you a very good idea of the average "cost per click" you can expect to receive if you use the suggested words or phrases.

Everyone should consider using this tool before they even begin to write their latest hubpage article. Let's just imagine for a moment you have chosen the topic your next article is going to be about.... STOP, before you write a single word visit this link:

https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

You will need to enter a series of "characters" the first time you visit the site each session, and you may have to override your computer's security settings by clicking on the gold bar at the top of the screen each time you first visit the site, but after that it is plain sailing, and great profit making tips all the way.

Double Click for Full Size Image.

Step 1, (enter text shown in the picture).
Step 1, (enter text shown in the picture).
Step 2 (note gold bar across top of screen, click on this and select the option to allow the content).
Step 2 (note gold bar across top of screen, click on this and select the option to allow the content).

Now let's say you are planning on writing an article about 'Starting a New Business', well all you have to do is type these words into the empty box, click on the "Get Keyword Ideas" button, and see what appears below, in this case the following, (don't forget to double click on my image to see the full details).

Double Click for Full Size Image

This provides a list of "in demand" keywords, but to further improve the value of this information, you can find out the average "cost per click" of these words or phrases if you do the following;

Look above and to the right of the main body of text. here you will see a box with the text as follows within it: "Show/hide columns"

Click on the drop down arrow by this box and when the menu appears click on the option that says: "Show Estimated AVG.Cost Per Click"

If you also scroll down the page (on site), it will additionally give you an alternative list of suggested keywords, that often pay higher than the original and main list that appears first. This section is called " Additional Keywords to Consider "

Double Click for Full Size Image

Then you can go to the left hand column (highlighted below in red), and choose whether to show the highest paying keywords first, or the lowest paying keywords first, depending on how many times you click on the text above the column.

Double Click for Full Size Image

All you have to do after this is ensure you include as many of the high paying resulting phrases and keywords in your resulting article, ideally in the title and the tags, as well as in the main body of the text.

Don't forget, there is a whole load more to Google Adwords and the information it offers if you spend a bit of time on the site itself. I am sure you won't be disappointed!

I sincerely hope you all benefit from this, as I am incredibly optimistic as to the potential of our being able to use this to a profitable advantage.

I didn't use the keyword tool in my early hubs and since I've started using it, I've seen it make a big difference.

diogenes 6 years ago

Hi Missy: I've given you an "up" on this hub, but I am afraid it's not for me. Not to take a high moral or creative line, and I am no Shakespeare to claim my hubs stand alone, but this smacks just too much of commercial manipulation at the expencse of how your article would flow normally. I don't really need the money, although I don't have much, but the writing the article is my main concern, not how much it makes. Why, I made 90 p. last month on clicks! How much do you need! Bob x

I hope you can ignore the previous comment. It wasn't very nice. I liked this hub and I rated it up too as I always do. This is something that can be a challange especially to new comers but you explained it very well.

Hi KCC, I shall definitely be giving it a go, as I can see the potential in it very well.

Hi Diogenes (Bob), I understand your point of view on this, but hey, it doesn't have to change your writing skills at all, or detract from the quality of your article, e.g. it might just be the difference between the way of phrasing something, like what if using the words "container vegetable growing" were paying 10p per click, but if instead you had used the words, "growing vegetables in containers" it might have been 20p per click. The hub would read much the same, but you would have doubled your cost per click rate. LOL, I do actually need the money quite badly right now, although I never rely on hubpages to make me a regular income, at least not yet, but would like it if I could make a full time living this way in the future, or at least combine it with my veg growing business next year.

Thanks Queenbe, I am glad you enjoyed this hub, and I hope many newbies especially find it useful.

Diogenes / Bob above your comment didn't intend to be nasty I am sure. He always leaves lovely comments on my hubs generally, I guess this just isn't a system he feels too comfortable with, or perhaps as yet he doesn't realise that you can still write an excellent and free flowing hub using adwords, without it being detrimental to the quality of the article itself.

Great article, I actually rather like the setup of your article with all the screen shots. Its a good way to show the readers what your actually doing.

I always look at the keyword tool, mostly for the title and the tags. I often forget to get three or four references in the first couple of paragraphs to the important keywords, and it would help if I did, not only for the profit but also, there's a good writer's reason for making your subject very clear in the introductory paragraph, and reiterating the subject. So art doesn't have to bow down to practicality--they are both served.

Thanks Midasfx, I just knew I found it really confusing when I first started out, and to be honest this kind of an article would have been far easier for me to understand than many are, so I truly hope I got it right and it does make this easier for people who are new to this.

Hi Paradise, your comment makes very good sense, and thanks for posting it. I only hope it helps others to get the idea of how best to write a profitable hub of their own. :)

Your article on "How to maximize Google Adwords Keywords tools for profit" (paraphrase) is an eye-opener. The ease with which you convey the "how to" (step by step) is very pedagogical. Your points all, very well illustrated (A picture is worth a thousand words.), are, hence, revealing.

Prior to reading your article, most of us were operating in the thick of darkness with respect to Google Adwords Keywords tool "Average Cost Per Click", and its potential thereof. Thanks to your hub, a glaring light is shining on that very important tool. No longer will it hide in plain sight. For that reason-and that reason alone-your article stands to make better and more productive Hubbers out of us all.

Kudos to YOU!

Thank you.

The difficulty is in the writing! I doubt anyone have enough knowledge to write about tax attorney or death attorney

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 6 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

You don't have to write about those though scheng1, simply choose the subject you do want to write about, then look it up on Adwords and establish the best phrasing of that subject to maximise your earning potential.

Looking for the highest paying subjects first is probably not the best way to go about this. Instead, choose to write about a subject you do know lots about, and then use Adwords to phrase it in such a way as to maximise the potential income.

Great hub, well done! However by picking the highest keyword phrases you will get listed among millions if not billions of searches.

You can use keywords between 1,000 and 5,000 or even 10,000 and have decent traffic. But for more detail secrets visit http://www.blogorwriteformoney.com

Analizying keywords is strategic, that is why there are so many methods and theories.

Hope this helps some.

Thanks Misty. I bookmarked this. Although I don't search before I write because I already have my research done before I even write. I use it after I write to add important tags to my hub.

This is very useful and informative thank you, I am getting a much better understanding of many more things here on HubPages now. Plus many tools and good tips and advise, is helping me to grow as far as knowledge in how to create a better HubPage, that may even generate some money as well. Thank you again!

Thanks Fluffy, you are very welcome, and am pleased this will be of use to you. Don't worry, the income will come, but you do need to be patient and keep on writing. Most people don't receive their first payout from Adsense until about 8 months to 18 months after signing up, but the payouts get closer and closer together once you have hit the first one.

After posting my previous comment I read a few of your hubs. OMG they ARE very good and most of them are on my favorite topic - gardening. I have started writing hubs and planning to have a terrace garden as I am on a rehab program at home post my spinal operation 2 months back. You inspired me a lot!

By the way may I ask you whether we will be able to generate some income with google adsense if we write well in these hubs? I have started a blog too and can I apply and use the same adsense code for both?

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 3 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

Hi lalithaprakash, welcome to Hubpages and thank you for your kind words. I hope you are on the mend soon after your operation. To answer your question, yes you should be able to generate some income using Adsense, although here on hubpages I recommend opting for the HP Ad program to maximise your income (you willl still earn from Adsense on this system, only less on Adsense and more on HP Ads, and generally in total more than you would on Adsense alone). You only need to apply to Adsense and get approved once, then you use the same code across all the various blogs and sites you write on. You will need to be approved for Adsense in order to be eligible for the HP Ad program. The main thing I would say is not to expect much income from this, and bear in mind it may take as long as a year before you start to see the trickle of earnings increase, and that is if your type of writing and subject matter are popular. I earn a three figure monthly income from my writing here, but that has taken me over 4 years to achieve, and it is still only a very part time income.

Good Luck.
