Do You Know Noah?
I don't know if you know Noah Kalina, but I have been lucky enough to stumble upon this internet entrepreneur and photographer. I can't tell you how lucky I feel to have found him, and to have the opportunity to bring him back here to you.
As is my way I am here to enlighten you. I am here to educate you to the best of my ability. Most people have come here to find out how to make money on the Internet. Many people will hope for free advice on how to reap instant riches. I hope you will continue to read. I may not make you a millionaire, but if you read this you will be a step or two closer to your dream.
Lessons in life are often learned one of two ways, you either learn by watching someone who does everything the right way, and attempt to duplicate the same path, or you learn by trial and error.
Obviously, if you want to be successful, you will ultimately choose to have the best of both worlds, by following closely in the footsteps of someone you admire, and allow yourself to try a few new techniques and see if you improve on perfection or fail.
First, lets get back to Noah Kalina, and what is so special about him.
Noah Kalina is an artist, a photographer, and he has had his own web site up and running since the year 2000. I wrote to him and asked to write this article, because I didn't want to infringe on any copyrights. His name for instance, is worth money. I am not kidding when I say that. Nor am I kidding when I tell you that if you haven't heard of Noah Kalina, you probably just don't realize the fact that he has been influencing your day for quite some time.
Over 15 million views, that's viral video.
The Viral Video Has Come a Long Way
In August of 2006, Noah Kalina uploaded his video, "Noah K Every day" set to the music composition of Carly Commando. It is a compilation of well over 2000 photos that Noah had been taking of himself since he was 19, in January of 2000. By March of 2007 the views of this video were reportedly at 5.3 million and climbing by about 10,000 per day according to NYTimes.com journalist, Keith Schneider. Not too shabby, considering that YouTube launched in April of 2005. Putting this in further perspective, the first uploaded video, on YouTube has been viewed over 2.5 million times. and is only 19 seconds long.
Art imitates Life? Homer Simpson, Every Day
What has Noah Kalina Meant to you?
Noah Kalina went on line in 2000, and it was then that he started his daily photo log. Blogging was quite new, with most of that done by real journalists, not like today. Noah Kalina's passion for photography, and disdain for portfolios, is the type of attitude that has made our interaction and internet entrepreneurship possible.
In his April 2009 with Jake Stangel Noah Kalina had this to say about the Internet and his art: "I have not gotten work any other way. The whole drop your portfolio thing off never worked for me. I found that approach to be the most frustrating and demeaning process there is. I have a portfolio but I never show it around. I really haven’t needed to. I have also never sent out postcards or done any self promotion campaign."
Noah Kalina's every day photo log shows that we change minutely every day. Our blog posts and tweets our Facebook and MySpace, our blogger and wordpress, and our hub pages, should not be the diary of a "bland housewife" but a slice of our daily life, and highlight those changes, those enlightenments.
What you may notice in the video is mostly Noah's wildly untamed hair. As his facial expression never changes, (he calls that his control) and his surroundings change rarely, or barely, his hair becomes the focal point and is distracting at times. It is like the waves of the ocean, or the waves of grain in a field. The music adds to the rising and falling motion, filling the observer with emotion, as time passes before our very eyes.
Noah, however, takes little credit for the idea that has been much imitated, as well as receiving mixed reviews from raves to rage. Nick gives credit, and sends the public to Jonathon Keller, who has been working on his daily photo project "Living My Life Faster" since 1998.
While Noah's idea to photograph himself every day was his own, he says his video was inspired by Ahree Lee. He also sends his public to her web site as well as to the MySpace page of Carly Commando, whose composition really enhances his YouTube video.
Living My Life Faster
Just The Facts
The facts about these videos are these. Ahree Lee was taking photos of herself for three years and made her video uploading it to YouTube on August 11, 2006. At the time of this writing, the forst video had been viewed over 6.8 million times.
Noah Kalina uploaded his video on August 27, 2006, at the time of this writing it has been viewed over 15 million times.
Living My Life Faster, by Jonathon Keller was uploaded September 26, 2006, and has had 1.3 million views as of this writing.
I can only make my conclusions based on these facts. What made Noah's so much more popular? I mean, he even refers people to Ahree Lee, and Jonathon Keller. Jonathon Keller has been doing this longer, and the video was Ahree's film project to begin with...
Noah has been branding himself on line with his name since 2000. Search Noah Kalina, and you will find that he is in control of the Google search engine for his name, even beating out Wikipedia. Google searches for Ahree Lee and Jonathan Keller are not quite as successful.

What Noah Kalina Means To You
There is nothing new under the sun, cliche', right? The fact is it is still the truth. No matter whether something has been done twice, or a thousand times, when you make it your own then you take the chance of turning that project into something that can go viral.
I have no idea what might make Noah's work any more appealing than the multitude of others, except perhaps his eyes. There are many comments on his eyes. Noah is also a photographer and I can't wait for you to see some of his work. I am personally in love with one series called Internet Sex. No it is not a bunch of porn! It is art. It is unique. Check out more of Noah Kalina's photos on Flickr.
The point of all we do here, on line and in our every day lives, is that we "market" ourselves. Think NIKE, and you see shoes.
What do people "see" when they hear your name? What do you want people to "see" when they hear your name? What do you want them to think of, when they hear your name? What do you want people to say about you, and how do you want them to market you to others?
Apparently, for Noah Kalina, the answer has always been Photography. For me the answer will always be writing. Hopefully good writing, or writing that makes you think, but writing is what I wish to be known for. What one word describes you, and what you want to be known for?
Brand yourself, and then market yourself, sign your work, and never be ashamed of who you are or what you do. You just might go viral.
