How Good and Effective is Your Plan?
How should your plan be? Before even thinking about planning you must have a clear vision. Do you have a vision? Having a vision in life is very important. If you want to be successful in life you must have a clear vision of want you want to achieve. Your vision will help you to open your mind towards pursuing your goal. It keeps you moving forward despite the challenges and setbacks encountered.
Working without having a vision makes it impossible to picture what exactly you want to achieve. This is so because there is no any mental picture formed by a person on how the end results should be. Vision guides business organizations to achieve the desired goals as it is used in formulating plans.
You should determine in advance what is to be done, how it should be done, when it should be done and who should do it. You are simply planning by thinking all of these. You will not know how to achieve a goal if you do not plan. You will only know how to achieve a goal after thinking in advance what is to be done, how it will be done, when it will be done and who will do it.
Planning enables you to determine in advance how goals will be achieved. You should always plan since each goal to be achieved will have tasks that are not similar therefore planning is a process that is continuous. If a person ignores to plan then that person is actually preparing to fail. Planning doesn't necessarily mean that you will be successful. Some plans do fail or some people do fail despite them planning. If you find the first plan is not delivering the actual results (it is not working) then you should formulate plan B that will eliminate the failures of plan A.
Don't stick with plan A that has failed. It will do you more harm than good. You should be flexible to adopt plan B. You should ensure that your plan is a good one so that it is effective during its implementation process. How should you make your plan to be effective? The following is how you will make your plan to be a good one.
1.) Make your plan to identify the goal. This makes it easy for you and those you work with to understand it without causing any confusion.
2.) Make your plan to be simple. Your plan becomes simple if you have used a language that is understandable. Employees should be able to read the language used in the plan and understand it. Do not use vocabulary that will require a person to refer to dictionary in order to understand their meanings.
3.) Make your plan to be clear. Avoid anything that is vague in your plan. The contents of your plan should be specific.
4.) Make your plan to be comprehensive. For your plan to be a good one it should not leave anything out that is required to attain success. It should have all the details required in achieving the goal.
5.) Make your plan to be flexible. You should not make your plan to be rigid but you should make it to accommodate future challenges.
6.) Your plan should be cost effective. The costs of implementing your plan should not be too high but it should be cost effective in the sense that it should utilize the resources that are available.
7.) Make your plan to set up standards. Use the standards that you have set up to compare the results achieved. Identify if the results attained are according to the standards you laid in the plan.
8.) Make your plan to be balanced. There are short term goals and long term goals. To achieve long term goals, short term goals must first be achieved. You should make sure that you balance the short term goals and long term goals in your plan.
9.) Make your plan to be realistic. You will only be able to execute your plan if you make it to be realistic. Unrealistic plan will lead to frustration during the process of its execution.
A plan does not guarantee success. But then again without having any plan formulated, there is a higher possibility of failing.
