How I Became An Insurance Agent

Learn To Sell Insurance

 Some people will tell you to read the books, take the tests, get your license, and you are on your way. This is good advise, but they leave out the most important part, how to sell. You must learn how to develop your selling skills. If I can learn how to sell insurance, anybody can. Before I got involved in the insurance business, I owned an auto repair business. Auto repair is a whole different ball game from selling insurance.

I started in the insurance industry in 1999 after I was recruited as an associate for Pre-Paid Legal. Pre-Paid Legal is a multi-level marketing company that sells legal insurance. These people will teach you how to sell! They will even teach you how to shake hands with potential clients. Some people do not like multi-level marketing for one reason or the other, but I cannot find anything wrong with it.

Today I am a life and health insurance broker, also I am still a Pre-Paid Legal associate. Once I learned about selling with Pre-Paid Legal, this made me want to persue a career in P&C and Life and Health insurance. In 2004 I decided to read the books, take the class and pass the test in order to get my life and health insurance license. After receiving my life and health license, I landed a job as a producer with an Allstate Agency. I worked as a producer until January 2006, then I became an Allstate Agent. I sold my Allstate Agency in July 2007 and started an Independent Agency. I guess I owe it all to the multi-level marketing company, Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc.
