How To Setup And Monetize An Information Website Part 3 - Promotion
In this final hub of the series we are going to cover promotion of your website and how to generate lots of free traffic for your new Information Website. Before I continue, if you missed the first and seceond hubs of this series, please visit part 1 here and part 2 here. We have already covered choosing a niche, a domain name, a hosting company, different styles of websites and where you can purchase these. In the next paragraph we will start with the biggest phase and probably the most important phase of them all and that is the Promotion of your Information Website. Also this is the one which requires the most effort.
How To Setup And Monetize An Information Website Step 5
Firstly, if you remember my example of the search I done in the first hub for "Dog Training" if not I dont worry too much I will show you again. As you can see from the image below you will see there are over 5,100,000 websites displaying information for the exact search term dog training, dated the 30th of October 2010.
Remember I stated I was going to show you how to weed out all the competition, well here goes. Instead of trying to compete against all the other web sites out there lets try something completely different. Go to google and type in "How to train your dog effectively" you will see from the image below, that there are only another 165,000 websites using this exact phrase, dated the 10/10/2010. Now for the good part. You're going to be writing quick, keyword heavy articles, and submitting them to ezinearticles.com. Why? Because Google absolutely LOVES ezinearticles.com. Ezinearticles is a PR6/7 (Google pagerank) site. So content on this site tends to rank very high in
the Google search engine. You're going to take advantage of this fact to drive hundreds, if not
thousands, of people to your website each month.
Also from the image above you can see that two articles from ezine articles are number 3 and 4, you could say number 1 and 2 as the two links above are both sponsored links, which means that these people are paying a great deal of money to get into this posistion. Where as you can get your website here for free.
Clicking on the articles you'll see that the first has been viewed 8 times already since today October the 10th 2010 at the time of this writing. (10/10/09). the second one has been viewed 95 times since 12/07/2010 That's 103 people potentially visiting your website (more on this below) because of a single article. Maybe dog training is not the best subject to use as an example. You could try it with the weight loss niche but instead of searching for weight loss try searching for “How to Get Rid of Belly Fat”. Imagine having 10, 20, 30, or even 50+ articles all running on autopilot, 24/7. Sure you'll have a few articles which don't deliver, but many will be driving traffic to your website day and night.
How to put all of this together
First, take some time to come up with article ideas. This is why I always suggest that you at least havea mild interest in the topic that you choose for your website. And don't think just “dog training.”Think, “how to train your dog effectively.” Try to come up with very specific searches / article topics. When you've come up with an article, enter your main keywords in Google, using quotes, to get an idea of how much competition you'll have for that exact term. If you see very little competition (I'd say less than 500 other websites) for your exact keywords, you may not generate much traffic from your article as the demand may not be high enough.
Generally anything under 10,000 results gives you a 50/50 chance of being on page 1. Less than 5,000 results almost guarantees that you'll be on page 1. Remember to use quotes when you are searching for your keywords on Google. This is VITAL. You want to get an exact idea of how much competition you'll have for your keywords.
How to Write the Perfect Article
Before you start writing, please remember the following tips:
- First, for search engine optimization reasons, you absolutely must include your exact keywords throughout your article and title.
- Second, make your title interesting. For example, people love “secrets.” The word “secret” tends to jump out at people.
Example: “How to Train Your Dog Effectively” or “How to Train Your Dog Effectively – 5 Secrets toTrain Your Dog Effectively”
Below is an example structure for your articles. I've used it successfully myself.
- In the Introduction: A simple introduction as to what your article will cover. You’ll also be introducing yourself here, and how your article is going to help the reader.
- In the Body: This is the meat of your article. All of your content will be in this section.
- In the Summary: Rephrase the introductory paragraph. But instead of telling them how you'll help them, tell them how you've helped them.
- In the “About Me” box: (The most important part of your article) Give them some more information about you. Then start promoting your website For example: Want more “dog training” secrets? Visit our website today to learn more. (Enter your website address here.)
- Fourth, try to insert your keywords into your article as much as possible. This will help the searchengines rank your site. However, don't “spam” your keywords and write an article that makes nosense. This is why I like to use the “secrets” method. It gives you the perfect opportunity to insert your keywords multiple times throughout your article. For example:
How to Train Your Dog Effectively – Secret #1
Text text text…
How to Train Your Dog Effectively – Secret #2
Text text text…
How to Train Your Dog Effectively – Secret #3
Text text text…
Again, this is a VERY powerful method. It may seem a bit time consuming at first, but the end results should be worth it. So keep at it, and feel free to contact me with any questions.

Shared or Reciprocal Links
Shared or Reciprocal Links are generally the terms used for exchanging your link with someone else who has a website. The exchange could be with someone who has a Web site that is similar to yours, or one that that may be totally different. The concept of link sharing allows you and the other to agree on adding a link for the other person's site on your site and in doing this, you each help to drive traffic to each other's site.
When using Shared links, you are utilizing one of the more common and effective ways of promoting your Web site. When you are able to trade links, both sites can benefit by the sharing of traffic, as well as getting the search engines to notice you.
Shared Links Improve Search Engine Ranking
Shared Links are helpful in improving your search engine ranking, and also in helping bring increased traffic to your Web site, as both the quantity and quality of other links will have an effect on your link popularity. When you increase your site's popularity, you in return get more traffic to your site, and as more visitors find your Web site, your search engine rankings as well should improve, enabling the entry of more targeted traffic.
As your competition online tightens up, it is imperative that you attain good ranking in the search engines. In order to do this, you need to devise a plan, one which focuses on a linking strategy that will help you establish Reciprocal links with other web sites.
Why You Need To Have Shared Links
Link popularity is often defined and measured as number of other web pages linking to a particular web page, such as yours. Most established search engines take your page's link popularity into count when tabulating a Web page's rankings. For instance, Google views link popularity is one of the most important parameters for calculating page ranking. Getting more external links would generally mean attaining better ranking. Shared Links provide a simple yet effective way to developing external links for your page to increase link popularity of your Web page.
Steps In Setting Up Shared Links
In setting up shared links, it would be best to first find good-quality complementary Web sites. After you find one, place a link to them on your site. After you have placed a link to them, email the owner of the site a short note. Address him or her by name, and give positive comments of their site.
However, if you can't find something worth praising in their site, you may delete the site from your list. Next, inform the Web site owner you've linked to their site, by giving them the URL of the page where you've place your link. Ask for a link back to your site, suggesting a page where the link would be appropriate. In addition, keep an alphabetical record of sites you've linked to and requested links from, as you will need to know who you've contacted and who you haven't yet.
