How to Break Out of Your Limiting Beliefs

Our thoughts are exceedingly powerful, and we often knowingly or unknowingly relinquish, squander or disregard this power. Our world is crammed full of distractions and distortions and attempts to keep us dazzled or dazed. There is so much background noise. Personally, I am a companion of frequent solitude and silence. I also wholeheartedly embrace and advocate continuous learning. What else can expand our minds, quicken our spirits, and enliven our time on this magnificent, wandering star the way new insights and growth can?

Proverbs tells us that if we make our ear attentive to wisdom and incline our heart toward understanding, and search for these as if for hidden treasure, then we will find knowledge of our Creator, penetrate the laws of Nature, and discern the mysteries of Life.

"Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; discretion will watch over you; understanding will guard you." (Prov. 2: 9-11). Imagine how differently we can approach fears and challenges when this forms the foundation of our understanding; and becomes the basis of our beliefs, instead of loss, limitation, and lack.

In this way we go beyond the obvious and embrace that which is significant. We will be able to perceive that which appears to be hidden, feel that which is not tangible, and achieve what others say is not possible. We are able to do this by believing in two different things at the same time: by believing in the one Who designed and created us; and by believing in ourselves.

It has been said that we are not human beings on a spiritual journey, but rather we are spiritual beings on a human journey. Without understanding this we will spend our lives searching for the wrong things and never be deeply satisfied. We need to break out of our limiting beliefs, break through our fear and resistance, and break away from the tyranny of conformity and the herd mentality.

This realization comprises the intersection or the meeting place where my faith and business practices meet. This is where integrity, alignment, and compatibility of values converge. It is where a heart for service and a head for holistic success can find harmony. Much of this learning complements my former formal education, training, experience and work in non-profit management.

But it wasn't until I really delved into becoming an entrepreneur that many of these concepts had a direct impact on my life, work and lifestyle. Napoleon Hill puts it beautifully when he states, "Learn this lesson, once and forever, that you will find happiness only by helping others to find it."

We are restless and unsatisfied until we come to know who we truly are, and Whose we are. If we align ourselves with that knowing, and work, strive, serve and live from that understanding, it changes everything. If we intentionally shed self-imposed, limiting beliefs and behaviors, we live differently. What we expect is what we will envision, evoke and eventually experience. Which is why if we want to live a bigger life, and make a greater contribution, we must envision more, expect more and be ready to recognize and receive more. We see what we look for, and we take in what we expect to have and no more, despite the abundance that surrounds us.

We look with our eyes, but see best with our heart. We live within our body, but our thoughts can transcend time and space. We can aspire, we can soar, we can achieve new heights. As Napoleon Hill has taught, "Whatever the mind can conceive and believe it can achieve." Hill explains that this is true regardless of our past failures, and it is true regardless of how lofty or "unrealistic" our dreams might seem to others.

Of course we won't be able to realize our aspirations if we listen to and let all the external noises convince us otherwise; or if we cling to beliefs which discount our value, disparage our true nature, or deny our access to Nature's power. If we are positive, grateful, honest, caring and stay within our integrity, we have access to that power which exists in limitless abundance. We were designed with the ability and the capacity to access this energy, and to both employ and direct it for harmonious purposes.

It is fascinating and a bit sad that we can often be so quick to discount things we don't understand. But for those who are open and ready, the ability to break out, break through and break away is certainly available to us.

Also, one of the first steps to breaking out of your belief systems is figuring out that they are there, and accepting them; accepting that they are in control of your life rather than your choices. Voted up.
