Internet Marketing and Web Development: How To Become Successful in Internet Marketing

Updated on September 29, 2012

As the world rapidly develops into what is called the "digital age", it is becoming noticeably clear that there is a burgeoning influence of businesses and promotional campaigns on the Internet, whilst in the past they were primarily based 'offline' in newspapers or billboards.

However, with the vast competition that stands in the online market, only the biggest and best websites will successfully attract their target audience, and from there become ever more prosperous. That is why it is becoming the number one priority of numerous businesses, that they have a good 'online' presence, which enables them to promote and sell their products on a 24/7 daily basis. Not only that, but it is becoming increasingly important that their websites are listed highly on the search engine rankings, and that they are gaining as many potential visitors as possible.

Although, for the majority of businesses owners, understanding how Internet marketing and e-commerce works, can be confusing if not unfathomable. Therefore, I have made this article explaining the key fundamentals of Internet Marketing, and how a great website can aid you on your way to success!

Key Aspects of Internet Marketing for Businesses.

The first step on your Internet Marketing journey is obviously beginning to understand the key aspects or 'fundamentals' of Internet marketing, and how they can affect the overall progression of your business. As you may already know, there are several main features and stages of Internet Marketing, which when combined heighten your chances of having a successful online presence. These are:

  • Social Networking and Marketing.
  • Website Creation and Development.
  • Video Production and Promotion.
  • Advertising Campaigns on the Search Engines.
  • Optimized Web Content.

Whilst these 'aspects' are really only effective to enhancing your website's performance when combined, each one's individual quality effects the rest in a chain reaction which eventually leads to the result of your Internet Marketing success. This is why it is hugely important that you do the necessary research and work associated to each of these points.

Social Networking and Marketing.

Social Networking is a commonly referred to aspect of the Internet, mainly utilised by our youths on such sites as FaceBook and Twitter. However, what you might not know is that these sites can be a massive influence on the amount of traffic that your websites get, and therefore how many customers your business gets. With over 500 million people using FaceBook to-date, you can see why so many businesses and companies are investing their money into trying to get a spot on their advertising pages.

However, whilst before word of natural mouth would have been one of the most effective ways to get your website or business heard about, now FaceBook and Twitter are becoming prime areas where people spread the news about different companies. For you to be able to utilise this, you should be looking to gain a large targeted following on these sites, which would mean that you have a good list of people who are actively interested in your services.

Website Creation and Development.

Once you have people knowing about your website and company, you should be concerned about the overall appearance of your webpages. People will typically decide whether they want to invest or buy one of your products based on your authenticity, as well as how professionally designed your website is. There are many websites out there which can offer a great website designing service, and some of these have been highly awarded for their quality.

However, one of the best 'website creation' websites that I've seen has to be WSItime.net, due to the fact it is both cost effective and incredibly simple to use. I've provided the link to the website in the box to the right, and if you wish you can get in touch with them to begin creating your Internet optimized website.

Video Production and Promotion.

A great tool to utilise when making a website as appealing to the average visitor as possible, is to include a short yet detailed video of the services which your website can offer. Plus, it has been proved effective to add a good commentator's voice over some suitable background music, so that your visitors find the video both comforting and easy to watch.

A good 'rule of thumb' is to never make your video longer than around 2-4 minutes long, otherwise their interest will surely die out, and you may end up giving away too much information! Just give them the basic details of the site's services, and show them some examples of how your services can benefit them.

Advertising Campaigns on the Search Engines.

Google offers a great service, which allows you to host your website at the top of their webpages, for a small fee each time someone clicks on your website. Whilst you might think that this will become too extravagant to maintain, the visitors you'll be receiving to your website, will be more likely to purchase your product than the average 'trespasser'. Therefore, whilst the initial investment might be quite a lot, it will eventually pay off, especially if you have built a good stable website for your visitors to search through.

One of the great features about Google's website 'featuring' tool, is that you can select the keywords which you would like your website to show up for. Hence, why the visitors you'll be receiving to your website, will be more willing to buy your product as they were specifically targeted!

Optimized Web Content.

A final aspect of Internet Marketing, which is undoubtedly just as important as all the others, is that you must have optimized web content on your website, which pleases the search engines and gives you more traffic. This content can be either written by a group of professional article writers, or if you'd like to save money at this stage, you could create the content yourself. Whilst this will take a lot more hard work on your behalf, it is possible for you to make a good foundation of content all by yourself.

My only recommendation is that you do hire a professional to at least proof-read, as well as give advice on your content to make sure it's as optimized as possible. Or, to save on costs even further, you could use Google's Keyword tool, which gives you the average monthly views for each keyword or phrase, and how much money advertisers are willing to spend to rank for them.

Using the tools available to you, as well as the great content which you can hire professional writers to create, your website will become instantaneously applicable for having a high ranking in the Google search engines. Not only that, but if you chose to utilise WSI's Internet Marketing services for your website, you can almost be assured success on your Internet Marketing Journey.
