Internet Marketing Tools: My Top 5 Internet Marketing Tools To Promote Your Website

Updated on August 8, 2011

Your Internet Marketing Toolbox

There are literally hundreds of internet marketing tools available online today. It can be truly overwhelming to pick and choose the right ones, especially when you are a beginner. The tools that I present below are just a small selection of highly effective tools that I use in my own business. You can choose to use all or some of them, or go on and create your own internet marketing toolbox. The important thing is not to become overwhelmed with all the options that are out there. You need to have an internet marketing strategy for your business, and work consistently on implementing that strategy without chasing every latest and greatest tool that comes around.

My Top 5 Internet Marketing Tools for Beginners and Professionals

1. Tools for researching your keywords and niche potential.

Probably the best keyword research tool is available from Google itself for free. Just Google “google keywords” and click on the first result that comes up. Google’s keyword research tool will tell you the how many people are searching for the keywords (exact same keywords and synonyms), and how much advertisers are paying for each click (this tells you the profit potential if you want to put Google Adsense advertising on your pages).

To find out the strength of your competition, download the free Firefox browser and the SEO toolbox plugin for Firefox. These two tools will allow you to analyze practically any niche for the competition. If you want to make your job even easier and save lots of time, subscribe to the KeywordAcademy and use their Niche Refinery research tool. Cost: Google keyword tool, Firefox and SEO toolbox are free, subscription to the KeywordAcademy is $1 for the first month, then $30 per month.

2. Website creation tools.

Building a website today is easier than ever. There are hundreds of software tools - both paid free - that make creating web pages fast and easy.

However, I will give you one tip that will make your job even easier – I suggest you learn to build websites using WordPress, a free, open-source platform, that is highly flexible, expandable, and simple to set up. WordPress is a platform that was originally used for blogging, but it allows you to build any type of website (it does need to look like a blog) in just a few of hours. There are many free resources online available about WordPress, for example, check out this Wordpress web building tutorials at http://buildawebsiteacademy.com/.

Adding new pages, images, and multimedia files can be accomplished from your internet browser window, without the need to use any special software or learn HTML programming. You will still need to register a domain name and open a hosting account. Cost: about $10 per year per domain name registration, under $80 per year for hosting.

3. Email marketing tools.

You may have heard the saying that the “money is in the list”. A large list of subscribers is one of your biggest assets in online business. To build a list and then manage all the email addresses, scheduled messages, broadcasts, etc., I recommend that you subscribe to a professional service, such as Aweber or Mailchimp. Cost: about $20 per month.

4. Squeeze page (opt-in page) creation tools.

You need an opt-in page (sometimes also called a squeeze page) to start building your list. You may build your squeeze page by creating it from scratch, or you can use one of the professional templates that are available for purchase. This will allow you to quickly set up professionally looking squeeze pages to build your list. Cost: about $30.

5. Article writing and submission tools.

Article marketing is one of the most effective methods of promoting your products and services. If done correctly, it allows you to attract traffic that is targeted and highly pre-qualified to what you have to offer.

Article marketing can be also used for building backlinks to your site. However, to be successful at article marketing, whether done for traffic or link building, you need to write and publish literally hundreds of articles. To make your job of writing articles and submitting them to article directories a little easier, you can use help of article writing software and submission services.

Some marketers prefer to outsource article writing and this can be a great way to save time, if you can afford it. The problem with outsourcing is that it can be expensive over time (around $5 – 10 for a 500 word article) and the quality may not be satisfactory.  And especially for beginners, outsourcing is not recommended, as it only serves as a great way to lose money if you don't know what you are doing.

Now I'm not recommending that you spin the same article hundreds of times and spam article directories with unreadable content. You still have to make sure that your articles read well and that they actually **add value** to the lives of their readers.

That said, sometimes you may need some help, especially if you suffer from writers block by leading you all the way through the process of article's creation. And for that I recommend you try Instant Article Spinner for writing your articles and Unique Article Wizard for submission. Cost: $77 per year for Instant Article Factory, $67 per month for Unique Article Wizard.
