Why Are Leadership Skills Critical For The Project Manager?

PROJECT COMMUNICATIONS

Communication is a vital tool that is necessary and mandatory for success in all areas of life. However, Communication in Project Management is even more essential. I have always recommended utilizing daily motivating power meetings, e-mail, weekly written project target reports, and weekly team milestone communications via Video\Web conference meetings.

The majority of key issues

always arise from miss-communication. Therefore, I always keep a communication written log so I know who said what and when. Furthermore, this is best accomplished by utilizing Microsoft Office. I use Outlook for my e-mail organization of project communications, Powerpoint for my webnars and presentations, Excel for my budgeting, Office Live for my video conferencing  and Word for all other written communications.

Most projects fail because of

lack of communication. Therefore, to overcome communication problems I put a constant stream of communication tools in place early and often on constant basis. Moreover, as soon as I am aware of a possible miss-communication I stop everything and call a meeting. This ensures that we are all on the same page and target goal.

In conclusion, it is far easier to handle communication issues by having a constant project communication plan before your projects begin. Also; never be afraid of backtracking and double checking that everyone is on the same page. Communication is the oil that drives the engine in any project. Thus, lack of communication will spell doom for any and every project you manage.
