Make Money with a Craft Blog

Updated on May 24, 2013

Craft blogs are fabulous places to share your creativity, learn from fellow crafters and inspire others. They are wonderful ways to photo journal projects and creations and release your inner-Martha Stewart. But they can also be very profitable. This is because blogs in general generate traffic, and traffic = money.

There are easy ways to earn some extra money through your craft blog. Here are a few of them:

Sell Your Creations

There is nothing wrong with selling the items you’ve blogged about. You will be surprised at how many offers you will receive from people who find your items online and would like to purchase them. These transactions can be completed directly through your blog using e-mail and an online shopping cart such as PayPal.

Google Adsense

Google Adsense is a great way to earn money through your blog. These widgets can be added easily and allow for customization of size and color to fit the look, feel and layout of your craft blog. Google Adsense works on a per-click basis, meaning that any time a visitor clicks on an ad featured on your blog, you get paid. The amount of money you make from Adsense can range from a few cents to hundreds of dollars per month, all depending on the amount of clicks you obtain. Ensuring that the content on your blog stays focused on a specific topic will help keep your featured Adsense ads theme-specific and geared towards your blog readers’ interests.

Sponsors

Companies are always looking to advertise their products and many are willing to offer you commission to do just that for them. If you publish regularly and have steady traffic, many companies will contact you directly and ask that you upload specific product or store links and/or banners and will pay you on a per-click or commission basis. If you can string a few sales together, your money will add up quickly. Sponsors will also be apt to send you free merchandise in exchange for product reviews and blog posts about their inventory, thus leading to more income.

Direct Advertising

If you generate a steady amount of traffic, you may want to consider offering advertising space to fellow bloggers and/or shop owners. Typically, blog owners will charge a specific fee per week or per month to showcase your blog or shop banner within their blog sidebar. Adding multiple shop banners will increase your revenue and will also help you promote your fellow crafters.

Write Articles

Online article publishing websites such as HubPages will pay you a significant amount of money to write articles on the subject and topic of your choice. Writing articles about your craft will further increase your monthly income and will also provide useful information to pass on to your readers. Links to your articles can be placed within your blog posts, in widgets on your sidebar or can be shared directly through social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter.
