Smith's Grocery Store Online Job Application

Updated on December 7, 2010

Smith's Grocery Store also known as Smith's Food and Drug was established in 1932. Lorenzo J. Smith opened the original store in Brigham City, Utah. With the assistance of his son, Dee Smith, the grocery store business went through a large expansion. Smith's Grocery Store went public in 1989.

Unfortunately, the company's expansion into Southern California was a major failure. As a result, Smith's Grocery Store accumulated hundreds of millions of dollars in debt. The company was purchased by Fred Meyer in 1997. Within a few years Fred Meyer was purchased by Kroger Co. Today, Smith's Grocery Store is a subsidiary of Kroger.
