TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIETY

Updated on July 9, 2011

Effective use of Technology and '"Our Way" Of Life

Technology has always changed the way we live.

It,can affect our health ,wealth and social connections locally as well as worldwide.

Before the Emperor's new clothes people knew they were naked and discovered ways to cover themselves for more than one reason.Decoration, protection from the environment, and other reasons.

The discovery of fire.Discovered through lightening striking the ground and starting brush fires profoundly changed the way our ansestors lived..How they survived.Using fire to keep flesh eaters away from them at night, to dry flesh in order to preserve it, Increase the land available for farming and heating their homes

The discovery of clay to make pottery.Useful material to store water,etc... due to the effect fire has on clay.Making it a suitable material in order to make containers.Which eventually led to the discovery of glass making and smelting metal..

Printing on clay tablets that could be fired to preserve writing and eventually paper were instrumental to coveying thoughts and Ideas to other people and to store knowledge in books.as well as useful as toiletpaper when we need it to dispense with wriiten text we dislike and no longer need..

Boats, and ships have been around thousands if,not tens of thousands of years.

The discovery of the wheel profoundly changed the way we travelled. From riding animals of all kinds to using animals to drag and pull carts and wagons.

The the creation of the two wheeled bicycle.

The creation of the steam engine and railroads.

The four wheeled self -propelled vehicles.

Cranes, bulldozers, dumptrucks and all manner of machinery

The cotton gin, tractors, elevators, pumps of all kinds, refrigeration, vacuum cleaners ,the light bulb, typewritters, washing machines dryers.

The first computer was a mechanical device as simple as the abbacus and as complicated as the adding machine.

We,had stone, copper, bronze,Iron age and for better or worse the nuclear age

China has had technology for thousands of years at least. The west,it seems stole or borrowed much of China's technology long before they did it to us.So,are we even yet or will technology be ubiqutous and shared like we do with freeware today? The west stole Chineese technology for the creation of explosives and used it against them.

The Impossible became possible with the development of the airplane, radio, telephone ,television computer, cellphone.

Whole civilizations rose and fell due to technology and mankinds need and propensity for wanting more of everything. The need for survival led to wanting much more than just survival.I too want more than mere survival. The problem comes when we decide how to share what is available that greed and conflict.arise.

This conflict can be avoided if we are able or even allowed to avail ourselves of new energy technologies that would prevent conflict in the near term at least.

Another problem we have is the Idea that we have too many people for this planet and it''s resources to support.

If,we realize that we have created a throw away civilization. As many have by trying to recycle reuse reduce trash we put into waste dumps we will be on the right track..That in and of itself ,is not enough. We need to "stop producing" items that are of inferior quality and stop the massive reproduction of junk in order to maximize profits at the expense of the environment, our health, time and wasted energy.

We should only produce items that will last as long as possible.

Meaning they should be made of the best materials and manufactured with the best methods to obtain the best quality items.

Life is more than work.Unfortunately work is all life is to far too many people in the world.

Expecting ever increasing profits and Income are much too Important to workers and employers and Investors alike.

This system of life is a kind of cultural suicide..

We,are willing to kill others by denying them cheap but effective treatments for cancer and other aliments in the name of money and profit.

We, use pesticides to kill pests that eat our crops in the name of profit instead of using natural ways to do the same thing cheaper.

We pay corporations to do things to our food supply in the name of profit and jobs and at the same time the Independent small farmer is paid practically nothing for his effort.

If,we don't die from this mental disease we will surely die from the consequences of our inaction when it comes to our diet and the poisons we put into our bodies.

Most of us trust those in charge of our system of government to protect us from such insane manmade toxins we put into nearly everything we come in contact with in our lives.

Food - pesticides, herbicides, artificial colors ,flavors, fillers, preservitives, cellulose - wood fibers, modified food starch, chemical replacements for natural calcium- calcium choride,di-gliserides,artifical fats, artificial sugars, artifical meats made from shit.Currently being created by japaneese scientists for human consumption sometime in the future.

This last Idea reminds one of the movie - "Soy"-lent Green" where the majority of the worlds people were given food that was made from the bodies of dead people and food we take for granted today like fruit was out of range of the average person to be able to buy $100.00 for an 8 oz jar of strawberry jam..

People don't seem to care or think they can do anything about it without causing them some pain.

Remember that saying - no pain no gain?

Civilizations rose and fell because of food or the lack of food. This has been true throughout history. The people depend on the climate around them to provide the right amount of sun, rain and natural fertilizer to allow them to grow their crops.Sometimes the old ways are the best ways to do something.Especially if it's the only way left to you. Before electricity everything had to be done using machines that didn't require electricity to work. If,we become too dependent on only one way of doing things we may be creating the seeds of our own destruction.

In ancient Rome it was not only food that was necessary to survive.Water was paramount in the creation of civilization.Romans didn't know it at the time or they should have not used lead as a sweetener in the making of wine.Remember that old saying don't let "it" go to your head? Well,in this case the lead in the wine likely caused Roman Emperor Nero to go crazy and fiddle while the city burned around him..

Aluminum is maufactured using flouride to harden the metal for specific uses.such as atomic weapons.

Aluminum is used in some deoderants in order to prevent sweating by clogging your pores.

Aluminum is claimed to be one of the causes of alheimers disease.

Aluminum is used extensively in packaging of foods

Radioactive Barium is used in medicence to track the flow of fluids in the body such as the blood vessels leading to the lungs, heart and brain.to check for blockages.this is old technology that is outdated and should in my opinion be replaced with a variation of ultrasound technology

Chlorine is used as a bleach because it is very aggressive chemically and will bind with anything organic or inorganic that will balance it out to a reatively neutral substance like Sodium Chloride or Calcium Chloride etc.

Oxygen does the same thing. It,combines with organic as well as Inorganic substances.

I'm sure you've heard the old saying - "Too much of a good thing"

This is probably true of almost anything.

Some health practicianers say physically intensive mamograms and colorectal exams can cause cancer instead of preventing them.Especially since they are so Invasive as they are.

Today we flouridate water supplies with the false Idea that it helps prevent cavities.

After fifty years of flouridating water supplies it has been proven that flouridation is no better in preventing tooth decay than non flouridated water in other countriues in Europe.

In fact flouridation has been proven to cause bone cancer in very young boys.and lung cancer in workers in flouride plants, mining flouride.and the use of flouride in the manufacturing or hardening of metals

Flouride was required in the production of the first atomic weapons program and the military was concerned with the public perception of flouride. So, they got some military scientists to promote the use of flouride as a way to prevent cavities. All the while it was causing health related problems in humans.

Flouride also accumulates in the thyroid and causes many thyroid related health problems not usually associated with the thyroid.Things like obesity and diabetes due to low metabolism because the thyroid controls the panceas production of Insulin, high colesterol and heart disease usuallly associated with eating to much high colesterol foods and saturated fats This only true for one in four people because of a genetic predisposition.

Which brings use to using genetics to cure all diseases.Gene therapy may have some mert but it's not cure all for all diseases as they claim it to be.

Cancer cures in western medicene for the most part requires radiation.and surgery ,yet autopsies on people who die from cancer shows they died from chemo-therapy treatment and or radiation treatment which causes cancer. It's my understanding that cancer is one of the biggest money making medical treatments for doctors and hospitals.

I'm sure most of you have heard the old saying - "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"

Chemicals used to clean your non washable or synthetic clothing at a dry cleaner is probably toxic.

GMO foods or franken foods as some people call them are seen as playng with nature itself.

These GMO seeds cannot reproduce.

Farmer's have been persuaded to agree to use these GMO seeds based on the Idea that they are superior to natures seeds. These farmers are required to use pesticides or herbicides that come from the same corporation that creates their GMO seeds Sounds like a monolpoly to me!.

Is,GMO food better than naturally produced foods from natures seed that can reproduce?

Is,bigger always better? Not if nutrician is lacking.I'd take more nutrician and smaller rather than bigger and lacking like a balloon thats about to pop.I understand GMO corn and soybeans are very much lacking in nutrician. They are not fit for human consumption.Somehow they are fit for animals to eat!

Knowledge is power!

"Use it or lose it" is an appropriate saying here.

There seems to be a pattern to civilization. The rise and fall.

The ride up is not necessarily as scary as the ride down.Like a rollercoaster ride.

Personally I would rather have a safety harness in case I get thrown out because of a steep curve.

Given a choice between a much better future with appropriate technology - by keeping natures old ways alive while at the same time using "natural" technology to the betterment of mankind by not supplanting nature ,but by enhancing natures methods or a medocre present and future by the prevention of the use of appropriate technology or the misuse of technology to supplant or trump natures ways.

Which would you choose?I
