Best Modern Cover Letters That Have Produced Immediate Job Interviews

Since 1995, it has been my pleasure to teach effective Resume Preparation classes that have included effective Cover Letters, Thanks You Letters, and Portfolio Documents.
In addition, I have prepared hundreds of these documents for resume services as well as a growing number of individual clients.
A well prepared Resume provides a quick and enticing snapshot of the job seeker in just a few seconds, but an effective Cover Letter is often the key document that convinces the potential employer to call in that job candidate for an interview.
The following are two of my more recent cover letters that have gained immediate interviews for job seekers. Client and employer information has been changes in order to protect their privacy.
Letter For A House Director

The following cover letter resulted in a request for interview within two days after it was received by Snailmail. The job candidate was hired within 30 days.
Note that the language of the first paragraph may seem a bit stiff and formal, but it is fitting for the employer, a Sorority in the university Greek System.
The second version is formatted for cut-and-paste into an online application form.

Specific to operating a sorority and residential facility, I have been successful in larger-scale school food and dining operations for a number of years. Skills such as sanitation, maintenance, ordering and inventories; hiring, training, and managing staff, and facilitating large groups all apply to operating a busy residential facility and help suit me to this interesting position.

The example below yielded an interview within a week of receipt and the job candidate was hired within 45 days in the university setting.
University and university related positions can require 30 to 90 days to result in a hire, because of state and federal procedural requirements set into place by related funding and governing boards.
