What is the best way to avoid getting discouraged as a writer on Hubpages?

When you have very little money coming in from the ad program and then it drops suddenly without any explaination to the point where you want to give up writing hubs, how do you find the motivation to stick with it?

Keep writing and read the success stories.  You have to work really hard and optimize SEOs.  There are some great hubs.  Good luck.

That just seems to be the way things go online. You have to stick with it though because it does take time and usually these are just little road blocks. We all keep learning and hopefully get better with time. You also have to enjoy what you are doing I believe.

you have to realize that it isn't easy nor is it a fast way to earn money.  Also, use hubs as part of an overall strategy rather than the only thing you do.  For example I love to write hubs that help people, but I also build websites and I link similar themed websites to my hubs etc. to build backlinks and traffic.

I also write for other websites - I have sold several articles on Constant-content for example where you name your own price.  You can also look for other freelancing gigs to do as well - in other words don't put all your eggs in one basket as the saying goes smile

I would also add that many of my hubs are doing better after some overhauls and having been published for several months... be patient with it and just keep doing it.  Focus on what you DO like about it - helping others for example smile.

I would encourage you to read the success stories, so that you can get an idea of exactly what's possible here.  Also, see what the other ordinary mortals are earning - for instance, I have a couple of hubs comparing my HP earnings to my income form other sites.

Finally, don't make writing for money your sole goal.  Make some of the things that you write about simply things that you want to write about.  Oddly enough, I've experienced the most success with those things I wrote about just because I liked them, not because I thought there was a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.  (Not that there's anything worng with writing for money; I'm just saying be sure to mix in some fun stuff, too.)
