Listening is a skill than many people are deficient in. In the book Listening by Andrew Wolvin there are statistics which show how deficient we are at listening. Reading and writing are taught in schools, but listening is not directly taught. To sharpen a person's communication skills a person needs to go on a life long pursuit. This makes the person a better listening, and therefor communicator.
Lifelong learning also teaches a person about various perspectives. This allows people to understand other people's perceptions better. This, in turn, makes the person a better communicator.
