Could not even put a number on it!
April 10, 1979 a tornado a quarter mile wide laid waste to one-fifth of my hometown. I was a staff writer for the Wichita Falls Times Record News at the time, and I had dragged myself into the newsroom, as usual, about 7 a.m. that morning. The tornado hit sometime after 4 p.m. Myself and every other journalist in town hit the streets running and did not stop--save for cat naps and a quick change of clothes--for days.
