Types of Back Offices

Updated on April 13, 2015

What is a Back Office?

There are three types of back offices. The first two are positive. The third one...well let us just say that you will be looking forward for the weekend off.

First, there is the online back office. This is a good thing and a plus for anyone trying to market him or herself.

The second would be a home office. This could be for a hobby or for the self-employed. The great part of working for yourself is that you are your own boss. You choice your own hours, take breaks when you need to, and no boss from hell. Unless you are the boss from hell and really, really, treat yourself like the devil. This does happen when we expect success to happen overnight.

The third one is an office that your boss from hell placed you in, this back office is not a good one.

Part of being successful online is to make connections and friends online. In order to be successful in your Back Office online, it is good to establish yourself as a real person. Joining social networks like HubPages will help others get to know you.

A Back Office on a website can be a place that would manage the subscribers to your product, MLM or service and affiliates downline. Also may have the ability to process payments and process payouts. The Back Office is where you might manage your profile. It is the administration part not seen by customers. Call it your online filing cabinet. Sure, you can keep this stored on your computer, but having a place online is extremely valuable for the business-minded person. Having a Back Office online is a good thing.

An autoresponder is part of your back office. You collect subscriber names, and then send out newsletters and mini advertisements that you think they would be interested in.

More information about autoresponders can be found here!

Plan on What Would Be Tax Deductible

Consider what your office will be used for. If it is a combination family, TV and office, then you will not be able to deduct this part of your home on your taxes. Keep good records. Everything that you spend, including travel expenses can be claimed on you taxes.

Let us explore the basic needs for an office. You would need a desk, computer, fax machine, paper, software, maybe a separate phone line to name a few.

Talk About Needing to Work Your Way Up

If you begin a new job and your office is the back office...that might not be a good thing. Your back office could have been the janitorial closet. It still has the deep sink, the floor drain, shelves with chemicals and toilet paper. Not to mention the smelly old mop in the corner. Now it is your office, with a desk in the middle and no windows.

Perhaps it is because you are new, there just is not enough office space per employees working there or the boss just does not like you. What a way to start a new job, right!

If you find that the boss is mopping the floor with you then it is time to start looking for a better job. Of course, that may be easier to say with the large number of people looking for work.
