Webanswers.com Traffic Collapsed

Webanswers.com traffic collapsed.

Webanswers it seems, has fallen out of grace with the powers that be (whoever they are?)

Judging by their collapsing traffic statistics over the last few months, it seems that the decline is terminal.

Trying to access the website today (8th October 2015) returns this comment:-

"Failed to open socket - No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:9999 error."

I was alerted to this collapse by a fellow hubber. he told me that webanswers was having some problems. When I tried to check in I found that the website was unavailable.

Shame it was an interesting website.

This is a timely reminder to never put all of your content in one place.

My original post on how webanswers used to work is below. It has an amazing 236 comments from readers and fellow hubbers.

Needless to say there will probably be no earnings from webanswers any time soon.

The link to webanswers and related items have been deleted from this hub.

Goodbye webanswers. It was good while it lasted.

Webanswers... How it used to be.

You get a share of the revenue, generated from the adverts that appear beside your answers. Simple.

You can make money writing new answers and answering questions online. It is a very simple website to use and more importantly. It actually works.

They pay you cash, for asking questions and writing answers to questions that the public have asked. The website uses Google Ads, and the adsense revenue sharing system.

You will get a share of the adsense earnings, after you have answered your first 50 questions.

The good news is, it work's. This is the 9 month update to this hubpage as promised and I can confirm that webanswers does indeed work. It's very simple to use too.

Webanswers

It is a legitimate business. It does work and the earning potential depends on 'you'. Your amount of engagement on the site. More input, more money, that simple.

Is it one of the top money makers on the internet for this type of activity. I really have not given it as much effort and time as I should. I just wanted to prove it worked first. It does. Each of us should give it the effort we feel we wish to put in.

This money making guide, along with the extensive comments section from others. Cover just about everything you need to know, about how to answer questions to how to get paid on Webanswers. You will need an adsense account. If you haven't got one already, you can sign up after you have answered 50 questions..

To begin. Sign up. The referral link is below on this page. When answering questions, try to make sure that your answer is over 100 words in length.

I have read on the tutorials that you are paid according to the quality and the depth of the answer. You can also add a photo. Make sure it is copyright free and attribute the source of the photo.

The sites income is generated by advertisements from Google's adsense program, you will need to sign up if you do not have an adsense account. After you have answered 50 questions you will be offered the adsense account sign up page. These adverts are shown alongside the answer that we have custom written. We get a share this adsense revenue.

Custom Writing.

When I say custom writing. It means that the answer we have written is specific to that question and has not been copied from anywhere else. It must be original custom writing, for that question only.

100 Words Makes Sense

The 100 words apparently has an influence on the ranking, given to the answer by web crawlers. (programs that search the internet for Google & Bing, and add your custom writing answers to their index pages etc)

You are paid per line.

Currently my answers are averaging slightly over $26.00 PPC. Remember this is based on the mille idea or per 1000 clicks. These rates vary according to a mysterious ranking algorithm that no-one knows anything about.

I have answered over 2000 questions with answers varying in length from 5 words up to a maximum of 100 words (at most I have answered 10 questions with 100 words) and made £6.50 for November 2011.

I haven't answered a question for about 5 weeks now, and I still made £8.40 for December 2012. So it is profitable considering I have done very little work. I was paid on a ratio of £54 per 1000 hits So it work's. These ratios change according to the questions you answer. Business answers seem to pay more.

Even when I am not actively working on the site. I am still earning. You do however have to do a bit every now and then, otherwise your earnings may drop dramatically.

Now if I were to answer 2,000 questions I can imagine that earnings potential will increase exponentially. There is only one way to find out. Do it. So I am doing it. Slowly but surely.

Micro update for Existing members 13th June 2012

Some interesting information that you should know. Many people have asked about getting their questions and answers awarded.

Please check out this answer from Animal_world (Brain (9,679), as it clearly states that you are better off not getting answers awarded. As then you continue to earn from them.

Once awarded then only the author gets paid. Please check out the above link as it clarifies this question.

How to Get Paid. Keep at it

I have deliberately not been on the site, as I wanted to test if we still earn with little or no engagement with the site. It does.(Dec 2012)

Unfortunately I am now answering just one or two answers per week. I have other more pressing demands on my time. (March 2012)

The evidence as far as I can tell; is that once you have put your answers on their site. Whether you engage with the site or not. is up to you. It is really that simple. I have been told that if you engage with the site you may make more money? I cannot confirm or deny that claim.

What I can say also, is that it is an experience, worth at least a visit and looking into.

And you get to contribute to the fundamental DNA of the internet. The answers eventually turn up on the search engines.

These are some questions that I have answered and been awarded.

Question on Infra Red Astronomy. Question on Hair Loss In Men

These two answers alone show the diversity of questions you may encounter and chose to ignore or answer. Your answers could potentially live forever in cyberspace. OK enough with the hard sell. They can be used as referrals to articles you may write.

Stay with me now it's gonna get a little repetitive for a minute. I will be as quick as I can.

Quick setup:-

Basically you go to webanswers.com and create a profile. Simple. It has been in Beta since it's inception many years ago. The interface is very simple; you have to ask questions and you have to answer questions. You get paid for both. But you get paid more for answers and long term. So by all means ask questions but focus on the answers.

You will see that other people may have answered the question but that doesn't mean that you cannot answer the same question. You can view their answers. If you think you have a better answer then go for it and submit your answer.

The questions that have been answered are then judged by the person who asked the question and awarded to who they think answered the question best. (take a deep breath)

Being awarded a question that you answered, means that you will get a bigger share of the advertising revenue, from that answer forever (doubtful, don't hold your breath)

So how do I Earn?

The answers are eventually displayed on sites all over the internet, raising and marketing your profile in the process. Whatever ads are shown alongside your answer at that time, you will receive a percentage of the revenue. Right so you are signed in and the screen is there. Hey what about, how to get paid?

50 question rule. You have to answer 50 question's first

When you answered the first 50 question's, a new tab appears in your profile where you just click and it links to your Google adsense account (if you have one) or creates a Google adsense account for you if you don't.? Sometimes this can take a few days or even weeks.

The 50 question rule was introduced to deter time wasters.

Just fill in your usual details. It is a secure site so no worries there. So here we are, 50 question's to answer. It did seem a little daunting but I just jumped into it and pretty soon I had answered 10 questions. Then they just started flowing and before I knew it I had done the 50 question's. Now I just drop in every now and again. I answer a few questions. There is no time limit on any of this work.

Answers to maybe Avoid

It pays to be a little selective in what you answer. Consider a few other things before wasting your time on a question.

This is my opinion, you can of course answer whatever questions you like. If you want to know, how to get paid then follow these simple rules.

These answers are being created and are used by search engines, so misspelled or poor grammar will not be used, It is fair to assume. Search engines will often correct someones spelling when they are searching. So spelling correctly is very important.

(1) Don't answer questions that are misspelled.

(2) Some questions may be years old, you can still answer them and earn from these.

(3) Don't answer questions with poor grammar. For the same reason as poor spellings.

(4) Look out for web bot questions. (you still get paid for these)

Sometimes the system generates it's own questions.

These are usually on a theme i.e. variations on how to get pregnant and what to do if you are and don't want to be (phew!) You still get paid for answering them.

(5) Don't answer questions that are ambiguous.

(these answers are based on value judgments, that you may not share, so you may rarely be awarded them)

Whether you are awarded answers or not, you will still earn money. The awarded answers do earn more money as a percentage.

Torrent of Money coming Your Way?

The last thing to do, is just sit right back and wait for the flood of money to flow your way.

But hang on a minute, don't give up your day job just yet, and don't tell the boss what you really think.

These kinds of projects take time to develop, to build up your stock of answers and of course. As we know some of these companies, can just disappear overnight.

You will have to carry on working, and do this type of project as and when you have time.

I would imagine that this type of work, would appeal to a wide variety of people, and of course it keeps the mind active.

If you like a challenge or need stimulation. Then my advice is to give it a go, but discipline yourself. Don't overdo it.

Take a break for 15 minutes every hour.

That's just good advice for any computer worker. Don't start piling all your eggs into this little basket just yet. I do hope this simple, money making guide, helps your online search for your own personal Eldorado. Not everything in life has to be 'complicated.'

Like the X-files "it's out there somewhere".

P.S. The question are ranked in a variety of categories. You are bound to find something of interest.

I was completely astonished at some of the things that people ask 18+ rated and definitely not for the squeamish.

If you are open minded and realise these are genuine people, asking genuine questions, then it is just another online writing job, with some interesting aspects on how to get paid for writing answers

I hope my guide has answered your questions about webanswers. If you liked it share it with your friends. Thanks for reading.

Hi Missy and Lena. It was an interesting website for sure.

It never ceased to amaze me what people would ask questions about.

It used to generate quite a bit of revenue for contributors.

It was a top performer for earnings. It's a shame it hit the buffers.

I loved WebAnswers though some questions people asked were ridiculous or stupid. Some questions even made me think that people posted them just for the sake of posting them... and that they weren't really looking for answers. Some people even asked questions that clearly they should know answers to. Like for example: asking what 7 x 7 is is just crazy. People should know the answer to that.

Joining that site and being a part of it actually helped me get to my first $100 AdSense earnings minimum. It seems WebAnswers is no more. Makes me wonder why great sites cease to exist.

Hi eugbug, Thanks for the update. I'm sure people will be pleased to hear that they may be able to view their content using the waybackmachine.

As you say it may not have everything but being able to navigate around the archive may give folk the chance to retrieve some of their content.

Thanks buddy.

Hi again Michael. You can't actually login, search or do similar stuff on the Webanswers home page on the Wayback Machine website (because you're just viewing a HTML page and the page can't execute such operations). However since pages are linked, you can navigate through categories and end up on your profile page, and from there view questions you've asked and answered. However I don't know whether the Wayback Machine takes a complete snapshot of every page on the site, so pages could be missing.

What I find really confusing is that I keep checking isitdownrightnow to see whether the site is running or not, and it always says the site has been down for only a few hours. I really had hoped to still access some of my better answers which I spent time researching, but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen.

Hi Eugene, thanks for your comment.

I'm pretty sure that the waybackmachine would not allow users to access their posts.

It just shows what the main website looked like back then.

Individual contributors content is not generally accessible.

Hi martygoldengate, I agree Webanswers was a good platform for a long time. Shame it went, the way it did.

martygoldengate profile image

Webanswers was a good enough money maker to be worth someone's time, but that was before the creators of the site sold it to people who didn't care about serious writers. The site dates back to around 2002, but was sold around 2011 to people primarily interested in selling cleverly-worded domain names to website owners through a different site. Webanswers was neglected as the new owners put their efforts into their other activities involving domain name sales. Google kept lowering Webanswers' priority search position as the site, which still contains thoughtful answers by intelligent people, became overrun by jokers who destroyed the reputation by posting ugly remarks and foolish questions.

eugbug profile image

For anyone trying to retrieve contributions they made on the site either answering questions or providing answers, its worth trying out the Wayback Machine which is a digital archive of the World Wide Web.

I've just paid WebAnswers a visit for the first time in weeks and things are looking worse than ever. The home page opens, but when I try to open any of the questions I get a message that the site is down for maintenance. Yet the front page claims some questions have just been answered. The leaderboard is gone though, so clearly those time stamps on activity are wrong.

I never earned a lot at WebAnswers, but I found it a useful site if ever I needed a question answered, so it's really sad to see this decline. It doesn't look like the owners are trying to save it.

Thanks lotoole for your helpful comments.

Good to have some information on what happened on webanswers.

I'm sure many people will be wondering what went wrong?

The website was up and running a couple of days ago just briefly.

Losing adsense is bad news. There are alternative ad systems though.

lotoole 13 months ago

I've been a member of Webanswers for over a year and posted about 8000 answers. The website has provided a very nice supplemental income for me so when it seemed to tank this month (October 2015), I had one of those dreaded "Oh crap, I put all my eggs in one basket" moments. The site has always been a lot of fun, affording members a chance to earn real money on line in a dependable manner without relying on some of the more boring survey/ad click sites. This month the site switched over to a new server according to the owners and obviously, the transition has not gone smoothly. It was up and down for awhile but the Google ad earnings were not reinstated for the members. Whether or not that was part of the server installation challenge or not, I don't know. I certainly hope it recovers from all this downtime. It was a unique site with many members who contributed quality content.

Hi Mazzy Bolero,

You are correct. Certain topics pay out regardless of participation levels. Pregnancy being one of the most common followed by job related topics.

Mazzy Bolero profile image

Mazzy Bolero 4 years ago from the U.K.

If you don't continue writing, the page views get lower each month. The first month I didn't write any answers, I got £1.53, the next only 45p. This month so far nothing at all. Some do claim to get residual payments but maybe they can get awarded answers on tax, legal or some medical questions, which seem to get a lot of views. Certain subjects do get views and clicks.

molometer profile image

molometer 4 years ago Author

Hello Horatio Plot ,

£1.50 per day that's roughly £45 per month. Not bad for a few hundred words per day I would suggest.

Where else can you make that kind of money online with little or no experience.

I stand by Webanswers. It is the best earning site on the web for this kind of activity. No contest.

Pity you got banned. You did give me a giggle.

Horatio Plot profile image

Horatio Plot 4 years ago from Bedfordshire, England.

You can get there, but as Mazzy says it's a lot of effort to keep it going. After reading this Hub I got up to about £1.50 a day after about two months (best day £1.83!). This was by writing about 5x 200 word answers a day. Some of my answers were up to about 300-500 words. But once I slowed down after around 3 months the money dried up. I returned a few months later and just gave short answers, but this only generated peanuts. Then I could no longer resist the call of the crazy sex related questions and started giving silly answers. Then I got banned.

So it can be done, especially if you have good knowledge about a niche subject, but it does take a lot of input.

Oh, and don't get banned!

molometer profile image

molometer 4 years ago Author

Hello Mazzy Bolero,

You are absolutely right about the need to keep working at it on webanswers. If you want to keep a steady monthly income.

Mind you, you did still get 45p, and you haven't written on there for...? I don't know how long.

So really, you are getting residuals for those 1000 answers you posted. Imagine if that continued for the rest of your life? would it amount to a significant amount of money for the time invested?

As you mentioned. It can be good training for more detailed article writing later on.

Mazzy Bolero profile image

Mazzy Bolero 4 years ago from the U.K.

I didn't have quite the success you had on Webanswers. I answered over 1,000 questions - admittedly some brief and insignificant, but many longer and requiring some research. I got about £30 a month for a couple of months. Once I stopped writing on the site, the cash disappeared. Last month I earned 45 pence. So no residuals and the £30 a month didn't justify the time it took. However, it's much easier to start making some money than by writing articles and I guess that can be encouraging to a beginner. I'd say do it if you enjoy it.

I have been trying out web answers and Im still on the fence on whether its a good program. Answering 50 questions first is an interesting concept, but what I dont like, is that once you have been awarded the answer and that questions Google Ads, you only get that revenue for 1 year. I wish that they would disclose that information more openly rather than hidden on some obscure faq

Hello Kalmiya,

Thank you for your comments. It is not for everyone as I pointed out in the hub above. However it does pay relatively well compared to many other websites.

Kalmiya profile image

Kalmiya 4 years ago from North America

I joined WebAnswers and read that they require 50 Awarded Answers before they consider you for the Adsense account and even then you only make revenue from your Awarded strings. From what I can see this might take any length of time as I've seen answers awarded after two answers that were super brief so the process of getting awarded is arbitrary. Personally I think it is too time consuming to get any reasonable income from the effort tho it's an interesting idea and profitable for WebAnswers no doubt!

Hi Alison,

So sorry to hear that you are having these issues. I hope they can be resolved them soon. Good luck and keep your chin up.

Allison 4 years ago

They have never ONCE emailed me back. Webanswers doesn't seem to care about you until you GET approved . From what the support pages say only the ones who have been on there for years get replies. And "support" is somewhat of a joke. They know nothing of the way Google works or how they accept anyone and they I am just a peon to them now. Yet "support" sits and speculates on HOW you get accepted when NONE of them really know. They all like to pretend they have inside knowledge when none of them know crap. If they did I would know what adsense wants to get accepted. You wont find exact answers just vague speculation.

What TOTALLY disheartens me is some guy just said in an answer that he got accepted , and he signed up AFTER me. His answers are awful --very short two lines, very vanilla and plain. AND his last answer doesn't even answer the question. I am beginning to think it is not what you answer but WHO you know to get on there.

molometer profile image

molometer 4 years ago Author

Hi Allison,

I have heard that it can take a while to get the adsense approval sorted out. There is a discussion in these comments on this very issue.

Have you emailed webanswers about this yet? That would be the first thing to do.

Allison 4 years ago

I have over 100 high quality , decent length posts and many awarded answers with an invitation from Webanswers to apply to adsense. I did that. It has been nearly 3 weeks with NO word in my email from Adsense.

It STILL says that my account is under review on my account page. I am about to give up posting on Webanswers. I'm down to two to four posts a day since I'm now VERY discouraged.

I really don't want to put any more time into it if I'm not going to get accepted by Adsense.

Molometer, Your hub gave me hope. I have been on webanswers about a month. I didn't know about the 100 words. I have answered 100 questions but only a few are very lengthy. I haven't started earning any money yet. I have only been awarded 3 answers though, so far. I guess it just takes time. I appreciate your tips. I am going to read the other hub you suggested and more of yours. Great writing. Voted up and useful and will be following.

I'll add webasnwers to my favourites and when I get the time I'll definitely try it out. Currently I'm studying at University, hubpages, and playing sports outside my studies - I'm afraid I won't be able to commit to it just yet.

It pays far more than anything else I have come across so far on the web.

I am still getting paid a little every month and I haven't been as active as I should, for ages.

It just seems to get pushed to the bottom of the list every time.

I must get back on it. It is so easy and fast too.

Maybe that is the problem. It is not challenging enough.

I should set a goal of say 200 answers a week and stick to it?

Thanks for reading. Glad you found it interesting.

Extremely informative and useful, full of very good advice for anyone considering this website.

I can confirm that you do continue to earn when you are not active on the site, so long as you put in a lot of effort first. However, your earnings will often decreased dramatically. Then when you start again, they will pick up to where they were quite quickly.

At the moment I don't answer more than five questions per day, I am still pulling in around $40 per month stop when I do put in lots of effort, I tend to get between two and five dollars per day. However, I will try your 100 words tip ;-).

Voted up, awesome, and socially SHARING.

Hello ukbusiness,

Thanks for dropping in.

Have you tried webanswers yet. I guess I have answered just over 200 questions myself of varying length.

I only answer things questions that I know something about and so get quite a good ratio of awarded answers.

I don't count the number of words I write, I just answer the question as clearly as I can.

The objective for me is to get awarded. Then these awarded answers are used as strong back-links to hubs that I write.

I checked out your hubs and your directory in Bristol, it must be exciting working on a new project like that.

I like the design of your friends site too.

Webanswers online money making from writing is a key element, in any SEO strategy, as you probably are aware, so it all ties in nicely and I enjoy it too. Bonus.

Hello punamdharkar,

I don't know the answer to this particular question; so I have asked the question on your behalf in the webanswers forum.

I will let you know what and when they reply.

On the Google question I am sure it will be fine once you produce more content.

Just make sure that you produce the content based on the new things you have learned, from here and my other hubpages tutorials in this series.

I have heard from other hubbers that sometimes Google just take a while to sort out new accounts but they will eventually get around to it.

Keep plugging away, it will all come right for you I am sure.

punamdharkar profile image

Hi molometer,

Sadly, my webanswers account is rejected, as was my google adsense account. The reason given for rejection of google adsense account is insufficient material. So I'm building my hubpages and hope to reapply for google adsense after there's enough material. I am wondering if I could reapply to webanswers, later? I don't expect you you have all the answers, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

molometer profile image

molometer 4 years ago Author

One of the advantages of webanswers.com, is the potential to link your awarded answers on webanswers.com to hubs you may write, or may have already written, on hubpages.com or other places where you write.

This has the added bonus of giving you a well respected sites, back-linking potential and reinforces your hubpage or other works.

For example here is one I made earlier.

http://www.webanswers.com/_yzh6e0rm/answer/2656640...

This way you have the benefit of creating links in both directions.

This will give your work a significant boost in terms of ranking your online work elsewhere on the web. Google likes webanswers BTW.

Hi Molometer.

The speech software I tried is called TASTI. A free download and it does work but not in text boxes. It works on everything else except where I wanted it to work on WA lol.

I suppose I could use it on a word-processor and then cut and paste it in to WA? I may give it another go but I can type faster really.

molometer profile image

molometer 5 years ago Author

Hi Brett,

I know what you mean in terms of awarded answers. I asked a question in the WA forum about the statistics pages (they show the wrong number of awarded answers} The reply was that it has never worked and not to worry about it. So I don't.

I have no idea which answers are being clicked as the analytics just shows the totals and nor individual questions or answers. It is a little irritating but that is how WA works. It has been a bone of contention since the site started years ago.

Other issues I raised in the forum included why is it still in Beta after so many years.

No one seems to care about that either as it is constantly evolving and their algorithms are in constant development. I suppose they figure if it works why change it.

Brett.Tesol profile image

Brett.Tesol 5 years ago from Somewhere in Asia

Oh, about the speech to text software, which did you use? Have you done extra training? (I read a story that took about 30mins) Are you speaking in a neutral tone?

As I now find that I can almost speak at full speed. The program won't show all the words, but is processing them (storing in memory temporarily), and then catches up as soon as you pause for the next sentence/paragraph.

Brett.Tesol profile image

Brett.Tesol 5 years ago from Somewhere in Asia

Hey Molometer,

I have to agree. Compared to what I earn here (at least for now), I get at 10-20 times that from Webanswers. Mind you, I find it easier to answer questions than to think of interesting hubs to write, so the amount of content is probably not comparable either. I'm at about 1900 answers now, so nearing the 2000 as I expected for December.

Oh, with awarded answers, sometimes questions get banned, edited or re-awarded (yes, it does happen) ... which can also affect the amount of awards. Personally I don't worry, as I earn jack all from awarded questions and lots from unawarded answers/questions.

molometer profile image

molometer 5 years ago Author

Hi Brett,

I did a few more answers and if you consider time for reward (short term I mean)

I think webanswers is the highest paying site that I have found so far. What do you think?

molometer profile image

molometer 5 years ago Author

Hi Brett, I was over there the other day and the server went off for maintenance so I haven't been back yet.

Went past 200 last week sometime and I have set up separate custom url's to track progress and it seems to be recording OK.

I did ask a question in the forum about the awarded answers that didn't show up in my accounts page.

I have 15 or so and only 7 appear on the account? Apparently it has never worked properly and not to worry was the advice lol.

You have been cracking on, way past 2000 now hey? I tried some voice software as you know but wasn't too impressed, I can type faster.

Brett.Tesol profile image

Brett.Tesol 5 years ago from Somewhere in Asia

Hey Molometer,

Hello formosangirl,

Thanks for your visit and detailed comments.

The aim of this hub is to share knowledge and as you have found it has saved you a lot of time.

I am glad that it helped you and I am sure it has helped many others as well.

I like popping in there and answering a few questions a day, for people as you point out, may not have the money to seek professional help.

There are so many people that could use some advice and I think it is a useful forum; for that reason alone it is worth a little of my time.

Like many things it is not for everyone.

formosangirl profile image

formosangirl 5 years ago from Los Angeles

Thanks for the explanation about how it works, and your hub has saved me a lot of wasted time. It is really sad to see the number of people who needed legal advice in my field of expertise. It seems that they are trying to get something for nothing, and they wouldn't even know what is good legal advice even if it hits them in the face because sometimes the truth is hard to stomach. That is why so many people are duped by schemers who promise solutions and cheap way out. Or, the blind is leading the blind. It is good to know that I'll be glad to just stay here and stay away from that kind of forum because if you truly need professional advice, I surely doubt you can get it on the internet, unless you are on a legal forum, and legal professional eventually want you to visit their office.

Oh, maybe you could write a hub on how you got so many followers instead? You have an amazing amount for being here only 2 months ... I'm still trying to break the 200 followers level after a year ...I'm sure you have some interesting tips!!

Thank you for the link to my hub "How to Make Money with Webanswers.com - Part 1" - MUCH appreciated.

I hope that it helps your readers make more money there! I'm getting about $50 monthly already for very little work, however I expect that to increase a lot as I break the 2000 answers barrier :-) and we move into the shopping months of December and January.

Hi Brett,

Lucky I went back to your hub, I was about to write almost the same thing again.

I have included your hub here for everyone; to save time and in the interests of efficiency.

It's a great hub and sorts out a few niggles. Well done. Saved me doing it lol

Incidentally, I don't know whether this is useful at all, or matters at all, but I got this message when I confirmed my email address on Webanswers:

"Receive 50 awarded answers and start earning money - Once you earn 50 official awards (which means the person who asked the question selected your answer as the best answer) your account status will move to beginner level. Once you reach this level, you will be able to earn ongoing advertising revenues from all of your awarded threads."

Hi Adrienne,

They take time to award answers I have noticed but you have 2 out of 50 already that's pretty good I think.

I have 9 awarded so far but they come when you least expect it. I got 4 in the last 4 days?

adrienne2 profile image

Well I have answered 50 questions, but only earned 2 awards. Oh will have to check the page to see how well other folks are doing. See ya around the hub. : )

molometer profile image

Hello Adrienne,

Me too, How are getting on over there? I have been getting a few more answers awarded to me which is nice.

Some of the questions are fascinating and I have to restrain myself from going on too long.

I try to stick to around 100 words that seems to force me to focus and I get better results that way.

There is a page on the site that outlines what people are currently earning.

Don't forget to ask questions too! have fun.

Hello family2010,

There are many sites that pay webanswers is just the simplest that I have found so far.

Webanswers rewards good quality answers and also the more answers you have produced the more chance you have of someone asking one of the search engines that particular question.

Be aware that I am not advocating any particular site just reporting what I find and where.

Earnings are related to quality of answers and involvement in the community like many similar sites including hubpages.

Hope it works for you and remember to have fun, if you look at it as work; it may not be for you.

It has to be something you want to do and enjoy otherwise it may feel burdensome.

Many people I have spoken are there instead of watching TV. They find it more interesting.

Hope this helped you.

Hi homesteadbound,

You are right. the comments have just about covered most aspects of webanswers.

The more the merrier I say as new questions are generated by the public each day.

As I mentioned, I think one could do as much as you liked.

The questions just keep on coming so the only person you are competing against is oneself.

Thanks for popping back and leaving a useful comment.

I came by this time to read the comments! You have been busy with the comments here! WOW! I am glad that I did though because it answered alot of questions for me. I think I will check this out this weekend. It looks even more interesting that it did. It seems you have done a good job at generating competition for yourself over there with this hub! Maybe I'll see you there! Thanks so much again for the great information.

Well well well Ghaelach,

8 questions already well done. The first 50 rule irritated me but I can see why they imposed it.

Once you do the first fifty answers you be able to link up your adsense account to get paid.

If you haven't already got an adsense account the site will take you through the set up stage.

Have a great time and enjoy yourself sorting out the bowels of the internet lol See you over there.

Hello Inspired to write (Dale)

Thanks for the read and votes. Many people over there just love it and it is very interesting.

It's not to everyone's taste. But I, like many others there feel that it can compliment hubbing as you get to see and do what is being asked not just by the community and some would say more importantly, the general public.

Of course I battle to drag myself off hubpages but I try to do a bit everyday on webanswers.

Glad you found it helpful

Hey,

lol .. Great British Pounds (guess it should be capitals really, as in GBP). I put that as many on here and on Webanswers deal only in US dollars.

They are a good bunch over there, but are also very protective of the site. A lot of lazy writers join and internet marketers spam the place, so they are pretty quick to report issues. However, this also leads to more earnings for everyone that puts a bit of effort in! :-)

Brett.Tesol profile image

Hey,

No worries, just didn't want you to get a ban, as it has happened before. Yea, I tend to post about 5-40 answers a day. I aim for 10 per day, but don't always reach it. Last month was great, my earnings were 27gbp after only a few months there. I hope to get that to 50gbp per month over the next 6 months, but will see what life throws at me along the way lol.

Glad you realized in time. I think I made one post at the start too and QUICKLY got told a clear NO!

Hi Brett,

Boy did I mess up big time. I read their tutorial and completely misunderstood it. Newbie error.

Luckily I only did 13 Q & A's but wow did I get chirped by the others.

It was fine once I explained the error of my ways but jes it was freaky for about 15 minutes and they were very helpful after they realised I just messed up.

And there was me thinking I had webanswers sussed out. Shows that just when you think you got it you don't got it lol

You have been busy over there haven't you? Well done.

I am determined to set aside time everyday now to build up my answers.

See you there dude and thanks for the heads up.

Just a word of warning; Be careful with your back-links. You are allowed to put 'promotional links' for you blog, Hubpages account and websites in your profile page, but not in questions or answers.

If you want people to check out more info, you can mention you have written about it and say that the link is on your profile page.

I just thought that I should mention this, as users have been banned after a lot of hard work, just because they hadn't seen that in the T&Cs and had been putting links in answers.

Other than that, it is an amazing site for earning, so long as you follow the rules. I got my Google check last month after just a few months on there!

Good luck everyone, see you over there.

Hi Wes,

I can't believe that you could possible have said something inappropriate.

You are the epitome of decorum.

Maybe you signed up under one of your non de plumes and forgot?

As I understand it.

All of the answers are moderated by the people that asked the questions.

So for example if the question was:-

'how to make a genuine Apple Pie'

and you answered it with

'kinky stuff is fun'

It is possible that not only would the answer be rejected, you may even get reported and banned from the site.

have fun!

Hello missolive, Thanks I'm sure I saw you mentioned on the HubNugget nominations too congratulations.

Well done on the webanswers.

It does take a little time getting your head around what the site is really doing.

Once you get it though it makes so much sense.

All those answers that the search engines throw up have to be written by someone and with the explosive growth of internet users; the need for people to create those answers grows everyday.

I tend to go on and do between 10 to 20 at a time on a particular topic and so you get into a kind of flow.

Don't forget to put a referral link on your site somewhere (profile page)so that people can sign up through you. That reminds me I better put one on my profile. Dooh!

You know that they still earn the same as you but you get a little extra from webanswers end of the revenue.

Glad you liked the video and thanks for coming over and leaving such a lovely comment.

See you soon either here or in the boiler room of webanswers lol

Hi - you asked me about hub profiles and that many are very long and were you *missing something* and as I cannot find a manner to simply reply to you - I am just replying here.

I suppose that your profile page should contain some keywords on the things you write about - especially if you want your pages to be SE friendly.

If that doesn't matter to you then I would say no - it doesn't matter how long your profile is.

That's all really.

Hi Molometer,

Thanks for your update and comments. Seems like your hub is proving pretty popular. I'm loving the interaction on Webanswers, but won't give up Hubpages. I see them as being complementary to each other, except that so far (for me) Webanswers is paying far more in a fraction of the time. However, I hope as my hubs increase, that my natural search engine views will increase on Hubpages too. Someone once told me you need a year and 80+ Hubs to really start earning here ... so long as you market too.

It really is quite fascinating.

And you and your descendants get paid eventually and technically forever. lol

molometer profile image

Hi Tina,

A web bot is a small program that is used to trawl the internet to gather information to add to a search engines index pages.

In terms of webanswers it is a bit of a misnomer.

Basically it's a question that has been generated by a computer program rather than a human being.

However it makes no difference apparently you get paid for answering these questions as well.

Hope this helps you?

Tina Kachan profile image

Tina Kachan 5 years ago from Europe, Croatia

What does "web bot questions" mean? I`m not sure I understand. Could you please clarify it a little? :)

molometer profile image

molometer 5 years ago Author

Hi Brett, and thanks for the great info update.

I have been asking questions and answering questions although not on a daily basis yet but I will get around to it...sooner rather than later.

It's pays to be methodical.

I agree it is good fun and interesting work and don't worry that you found contradicting ideas in the hub contents. Interpretation can be a bugger sometimes.

There is a lot of info to take in on webanswers and I'm sure your comments will help clarify these areas of any doubt.

On further reading I believe that "we do also get paid for bot questions as well"

It's just the amounts vary.

60/40 for awarded answers and 40 for unawarded answers that you have answered.

You are right to just answer whatever you can as they all pay.

Thanks for pointing us all in the right direction Brett That is the benefit of having multiple inputs, we all save time and help each other to make the right decisions.

For anyone thinking about doing work on webanswers I'm sure this information will help them decide if it is for them.

See you over there Brett and thanks again.

Brett.Tesol profile image

Brett.Tesol 5 years ago from Somewhere in Asia

Hi Molometer,

You are right, it does take time to build up, but not too long. I started off slow, just answering 5 question everyday. The main reason I did this was so I wouldn't 'burn out' too fast.

I am now answering 10+ questions a day, as I find it fun. 4 months in, I just earned around $40 this month. However, I am quite sure in the next 3-4 months I will be nearing the $100 mark (if things keep increasing as they are).

One thing I will say (sorry, it contradicts a little of your advice) is to answer any questions you can. People search with spelling mistakes and although bot questions don't award, you should find that all your money will come from unawarded questions. Those open questions really pay! Also, old questions may have been missed, as many questions get posted. If you answer these, it brings them to the front page and will earn your views.

Hope you enjoy it there, there are many great questions and it is quite easy to make some extra money. I started to notice steady earnings from about 180-300 posts, then it has just increased steadily from there.

molometer profile image

molometer 5 years ago Author

OK update time.

I have answered 100 questions so far and asked 30+ questions.

From what I can see most people who are successful on webanswers have in excess of 4000 answers with only about 20% awarded answers.

So just keep plugging away. It is still interesting work.

molometer profile image

molometer 5 years ago Author

Hi Urbani thanks for the visit.

So you have tried Webanswers too. I think it's a case of keep plugging away at those types of sites.

The statistics seem to indicate that one would have to generate at least a few thousand answers awarded or not to see a consistent return.

Let me know how you get on and thanks for the great comment. I liked you work on becoming an elite. I am sure you will make it soon.

Hi doodlebugs thanks for your comment.

It's good to hear from someone who is working on the webanswers program and is making some money.

If you follow my hubs you will notice that I am researching e-commerce in general; trying to establish whether it is financially viable.

Obviously it works for many suppliers of a wide variety of goods and services but I am particularly interested in the growth and development of the internet and how the "content" is created.

Writing online.

Early indications are that apart from the fun and joy one can have from writing on these sites.

You also get to meet many interesting and particularly on hubpages very supportive fellow writers.

And yes you can make money but as with webanswers the quality is so important.

As to your question 'how revenue sharing is done' that is a very good question. Why not put on webanswers? If you don't I will. lol

thanks for the visit.

I actually make a few dollars on the site each month. Seems legit, but how revenue sharing is done isn't explained very well.

Thanks Minnietonka, it is early days so far.

I will let you know if there are any new developments.

Just seems like quite a fun thing to do.

Its like being on your very own Mastermind show but without the audience lol.

Hi Arlene,

I've got to the point where my time is too important to me to waste on frivolous things like the dross that is today's commercial TV.

I must say though that the BBC still makes award winning natural history shows with David Attenborough and I do have time for those shows.

The rest of my time when not being with my children and grandchildren I spent writing which I love.

Those "gabfests" are just brain rot.

Thanks for coming over.

Thanks for this Hub, and I will look into this. I am like you. Other than for noise when I write, there's nothing for me on TV. I don't care to watch fluff, and I don't like the morning gabfests. Good point!

Hi kmackey32 and Amy.

I thought I should get clarification on the whole awarded not awarded answers issue. So I went to webanswers and asked the question.

It is a bit long but makes a lot of sense and clearly lays out the whole method of attribution.

I hope this helps anyone considering webanswers. I think its great fun. And thanks to slipfallguy.

Answered By SlipFallGuy

"The original concept when this site was launched in 2007 was that the person who asked the questions was also the same person who awarded the best answer. If you dig around for awhile in the really old content, there are question and answer exchanges that explain how the site owners originally studied questions that had been answered, and issued the awards themselves if they had not been awarded within 48 hours. There are also exchanges shortly after that where they discovered the volume of unanswered questions was so great that they simply could not keep up that effort.

From the very beginning, something around 85% to 90% of all questions asked have never been awarded to anyone. Since awards rely on visitors and members rather than the site owners, there really is not much of anything they can do to change that situation.

That is why they spent the time and effort to create the Quality Score Algorithm. That program actually grades every entry based on proper spelling, grammar, capitalization, punctuation, sentence and paragraph structure and scans to make sure the content relates to the topic of the question. There are other factors involved that are considered proprietary secrets that the site owners have not revealed to the members.

Your future revenue is keyed to the quality score more than anything else. As long as you strive to always provide the very best answers, you build a high quality score at the same time you build a large personal library of answers. A high quality score earns added ad placement to provide you with more opportunities to share revenue even in areas where you never answer questions. A low score removes your ad exposure. Members who consistently write poor content find that their quality score is so low that their accounts end being closed.

The awards are mostly an ego trip. They indicate that someone else felt your writing was good enough to earn an award. As long as you gradually build to somewhere around 10% or more of your answers being awarded, you are doing just fine. You may not see it average out to that level until you have posted something close to 1000 answers.

Concentrate on a high quality score. As you produce excellent answers, the awards will follow. You actually earn most of your revenue on unawarded questions and answers on this site, and that is due to the quality score, not the awards"

Hello kmackey32,

Thanks for the visit a 2 very good questions.

The old questions have probable been set by someone who no longer uses webanswers and so the question will never be awarded to anyone. therefore will never be incorporated into the database.

The bots questions are OK as long as they are current and not so old that they have become orphans in the system.

This is just my personal opinion in terms of the efficient use of my time.

If you enjoy answering all types of questions and many people do, please enjoy.

Thanks for 2 great questions and for letting me have the opportunity to clarify my view.

I have been a member of this site for a few months and I love it but I answer all questions including bots and old ones. Why would you not want to answer those questions? Most income that people generate are from non awarded answers.

Hi Amy I'm with you on this one.

I think it is brilliant that you may write an answer that some pregnant kid is going to find 10-20 years from now.

Your answer will give comfort and sound advice on what to expect from her circumstances.

I picked on pregnancy as I answered about 20 questions on the topic and was astonished by the lack of knowledge that is out there.

We forget that these people don't know what we know.

It is a case of our experience has value again.

I vote up. lol

Hello Arlene V. Poma and thanks for coming over.

I agree with you but would say that a retired person (I'm semi) is more valuable and the demands on our time is great; what with kids grand-kids and life in general.

But for me there is nothing on TV worth my time and in the winter evenings I like spending my time "on the laptop" and webanswers is hysterical.

Some of the things are unprintable but funny non the less.

I thought I was shock-proof but I have been surprised by the questions on there.

I'm sure it will become dull after a while but it's entertaining at the moment and if I make some cash doing it, I'm not going o complain.

In the immortal words of the song "Enjoy yourself it's later than you think"

Glad you liked it and thanks for the vote Up.

I am a member of webanswers.com, molometer. I have been awarded a fairly high percentage of "best answers" for the questions I've responded to. I think it is great fun and can be very thought-provoking. It is less time-consuming, for the most part, than most of the paying websites. I pop on and off the site between other online endeavors, peruse the questions and often find one or two that peaks my interest or experience that I answer. Like many of the websites, the "quality" factor is a bit mysterious to me, but I always strive to give my best, keeping in mind, that cyberspace is forever. One of the online websites that sends me a monthly "writing tips" email, paid me to write an article on webanswers geared toward those contemplating joining! So, I'd say webanswers has been "bery, bery good to me".

I am retired, molometer, but I don't know if I could venture out on this idea and answer all of these questions. I do try to balance my time in retirement. Although I do like writing, I try not to spend my days in front of my laptop's screen. Nothing gets done if I do. I become a hermit. Yes, retirement gives a person plenty of time, but that time is just as valuable than the person who is working. In retirement, the time is YOURS. Voted up and interesting. Bookmarked.
